PUTTING SMILES ON THE FACES OF CHILDREN THROUGH CHESS

It is a fascinating experience teaching chess to students in a rural area, especially in this part of Cameroon facing crisis. I believe in my heart that this experience can have a profound impact on their lives.

When I first came to cameroon in 2022., I was shocked to discover that schools were closed for 7 years in this part of Cameroon because of the crisis... but last year, through the approval of the Bishop ofKumba, we opened a secondary school at Ngolo bolo... it will interest you all to know that this is the only functional secondary school in 28 villages... Despite the challenges they face, these students have shown remarkable resilience and enthusiasm for learning.

Through chess, I've seen students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. The game has also helped them build confidence, focus, and perseverance.

What's more, chess has provided a much-needed escape from the difficulties of everyday life. For a few hours a week, students can forget about their troubles and immerse themselves in a game that challenges and inspires them.

As a teacher, it's been incredible to see the impact that chess can have on a student's life. I've witnessed students who were struggling in school find new motivation and purpose through chess.

The experience has also taught me the importance of adaptability and creativity in teaching. With limited resources and infrastructure, we've had to get innovative with our lessons and activities.

Overall, teaching chess in a rural area facing crisis has been a life-changing experience for both me and my students. It has shown me the power of education to transform lives and communities, even in the most challenging circumstances.
