The way things are going now especially how people scam others without having to think twice about it is becoming something else in the society. Before, scamming people was done on a low key, meaning it wasn't pronounced to the extent that you have to watch out for the bad guys, but now people do it as if it's their daily job or something.
Back then I used to say that those who fall victim of fraud are stupid or foolish to have fallen a victim not until I became a victim myself and I had to change the scenario about what I said. Those who fall victim tends to face lots of trauma and challenges in life and sometimes might not even forget about their experience depending on how deep the scammer had gone.
My first experience with a scammer and it should also be the last because I never want to go through something like that again, was something I will always live to remember even years to come. Back then when it happened, I was crying and kinda of sad, I never had the boldness to even say it out to people because I felt I will be laughed at and in situations like this, I easily get so emotional and I might start crying again.
It all started one morning when I was going to buy somethings at the market and I'm expecting to also go to the bank to sort out some issues with my other bank. I have two accounts one for office while one was just a student account that won't be able to take more than $400. So I decided to buy something at the market before going to sort out the issue, on my way, a stranger asked me to direct him to a church, I guess he missed his way because calculating where he was coming from to where he was heading to, it was quite far so as a good girl I decided to direct him.
After giving him the direction, he told me thank you and Shaked me, that was how I follow him into his car and they drove off. This man I'm talking about was dressed in a suit, I actually thought he was a pastor that was why I decided to give him the direction.
While I entered the car, they started asking me different questions, I could remember what they asked me but I can't remember how i was manipulated to follow them, I guess I was hypnotized the moment I shaked the man. They asked me if I had any money with me, how much I had in my account and so much more. I told them I have issues with my other bank and I can't withdraw for now while the other student account, I had $20.
They asked me if I knew where my parents do keep money at home, thank God I don't know where they keep money if not it would have been another story entirely. They took me to the nearest ATM stand to withdraw the only $20 and as at then $20 was actually a big money compare to now where $20 us nothing because everything is quite expensive.
I withdrew the money and gave it to them, they told me to say the Lord's prayers ten times while they go and reverse the car so they can pick me up, I listened and I started saying the lord's prayer. After some minutes, I realized I was actually standing on the express alone, it was then I noticed I was scammed and I couldn't do anything because they had already gone far with their car.
I sat on the ground helpless, I couldn't even tell anyone, thanks God the remaining change in my wallet was still intact so I had to take a bus back home and when I got home I couldn't even tell anyone, I just went inside my room and I started crying.
On the other hand, I was happy my other Bank had issue and I couldn't withdraw if not they would have taken everything from me. I knew how hard I worked to get that money and someone just took it within few minutes. What a wicked world, they didn't even think twice before taking what's not there's 😭😭
When I remember all this things I just smile and say, I hope this doesn't repeat itself again.
Another scammer came to my hostel last week to scam my neighbor and they made away with some cash. They came as doctors and they told my neighbors that they run all kinds of test since she doesn't know anything about health and all that, she gave them a chance to do some nasty things on her body and she actually paid them while they gave her expired drugs🤣🤣🤣, they had already gone when she came to meet me and I told her she had just been scan. Hehehehe
Let me just stop here because there are lots of experience people have with scammers which I'm aware of and when I decide to tell them my own story we just laughed over it. Come to think of it, this got to stop, they can't just go about collecting people's sweat and go Scott free, something has to be done...
For now, all I pray is that nothing of such should happen to me again..
