You're not reading because you don't love reading but because of apathy.
Zeal, enthusiasm, and interest are primary drivers of achievements. Your lack of interest is fueled by apathy.
You know how much you will benefit from reading but you just can't find a way to embrace reading as a lifestyle, your lack of desire is backed by apathy.
How do I overcome this reading apathy? The answer is simple: Have a strong WHY for reading. Your strength to do anything is backed by the value you will get from that thing.
Your strong WHY is a legit motivation to read. Everyone is motivated by what they will gain from an activation, that's your first and most important deliverance from reading apathy. Until your WHY is strong enough, your interest in reading will be weak and anemic. Whatever motivates you to read will determine your staying power in it.
What drives your reading?
Another way of overcoming a lack of interest in reading is finding out what motivates you to read. Personally, movies motivate me to read voraciously. You must not imitate my style, just stick to what works for you, we are wired differently and uniquely. Look for a trigger for your reading and use it as a means to achieve your reading goals.
Hunger for knowledge and wisdom is another channel of overcoming reading apathy. I am so scared of ignorance that it keeps me reading every other day. The fear of being caught in a discussion I cannot contribute meaningfully to gets me reading.
The need for knowledge can also stimulate you to read to know. What you don't know is what you've not read about. Whatever you know and will know will be a product of reading whether directly or indirectly.
Your beliefs about reading are big mountains to your reading exploits. What you think about reading forms the basis of reading apathy, and to overcome it, you have to change your mindset about reading. Reading is not as difficult as people make it seem, you have just not conditioned your mind to embrace reading like eating your favorite food.
Change your mind and you have overcome reading apathy by 60%.
The people around you can influence your reading habit and appetite. They can also determine whether you will embrace reading as an important part of your life or not. Nobody is better than the company he keeps consciously and unconsciously. If your close friends are not the reading type, it will be difficult to successfully be a reader among those folks unless you divorce them. To overcome reading apathy, your friends must love reading as a lifestyle and means of growth.
Reading is possible, easy, consistent, and enjoyable if you implement the above and more. It worked for me, it can work for you. I have read to a point where if I don't read before the end of the day, I feel incomplete. Don't blame, consistent practice breeds mastery.
