Pets are part of our everyday life even though most people don't own one. Pets are often kept as companions and they always serve their purpose.
Many people have different kind of Pets ranging from Cats to birds and some uncommon ones like wild animals such as snakes, lions and etc. But our main focus today will be on man's best friend, Dogs.
Dogs, often hailed as humans’ best friends, have been the topic of many scientific studies looking into how they might boost our well-being. It is likely that humans and dogs have shared a special bond of friendship and mutual support ever since at least the Neolithic period — but why has this bond been so long-lasting?
Of course, these cousins of the wolves have historically been great at keeping us and our dwellings safe, guarding our houses, our cattle, and our various material goods. Throughout history, humans have also trained dogs to assist them with hunting, or they have bred numerous quirky-looking species for their cuteness or elegance.
Humans have long realized that dogs can be helpful, in a number of ways, to achieving important goals. This is evident from our earliest interactions involving the shared goal of avoiding predators and acquiring food, to our more recent inclusion of dogs in a variety of contexts including therapeutic and educational settings. dogs can form complex attachment relationships with humans that mirror that of infant-caregiver relationships.
Dogs have also become increasingly widespread in applications to assist individuals with disabilities as assistance dogs. During and following World War I, formal training of dogs as assistance animals began particularly for individuals with visual impairments in Germany and the United States. There are dogs in the police force who even have ranks like human beings. Dogs are also used by drug Law Enforcement Agencies to detect illegal substances.
Studies have shown that petting a dog or cat can release the oxytocin hormone and decrease levels of the stress hormone cortisol, resulting in a more relaxed state. Incidentally, scientists have confirmed that dogs reap the same benefits from being petted. In recent years, dogs have been brought into airports, nursing homes, even school campuses to help relieve stress and pressure.
Although some people are not animal lovers, they cannot deny the fact that dogs have been very helpful to human beings and indeed are humans bests friends.
