Hello everyone!!! I hope this article meets you well. Continuation ...........
Animal Science immensely contributes to the provision of raw material to our performing industries. It provides vital raw materials for the production of various goods which has contributed to the economic growth of the country and the world at large. Raw materials such as bone for the production of gum; feathers for the production of pillow; hides and skin for fabrics – which are the major materials in the textile industry; wool and fur for especially cotton and winter cloth production; bone and animal blood for the production of various kinds of feeds; earthworms in vermicompost production, animal dropping for the production of optimum compost.

Animal Science contributes to the production of Bio-fuels. Also known as any plant or algae material or animal waste that can be used as fuel to generate energy. Approximately, Two billion people in developing nations use biomass fuels as their major source of domestic energy. Combustion of animal dung is used to produce bio-energy. Operationally, bio-fuel offer cheaper costs compared to modern fuels. It is readily available. It alleviates local pressure on wood and forest resources. It also serves as a source for sustainable and renewable energy.
Animal Science provides the rearing companion of animals – in domestic cases; dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and many other exotic species. Research has also shown that animals such as the Gorilla is the closest creation to man. In other words, with the studying of animal species, the propensity of insightful ideas about human behaviour and his relation to the immediate environment in which he lives is rife. Companion animals also help to add recreation to man’s ever hectic life.
Animal Science plays a key role in the improvement of human health by laying out precautionary measures to avoid zoonotic diseases such as Ebola, Anthrax, and Tuberculosis. Zoonotic diseases remains a major public health issue that poses great threat and substantial global burden on the general public and also leads to worldwide economic loss for the agricultural and health sectors.
Indeed, Animal Science is very important in laboratory researches as they bred many strains of rats especially the Rattus norvegicus domesticus, specifically for experimentation and research. Domestic rats differ from wild rat in many ways: they are calmer and significantly less likely to bite, they can tolerate greater thronging, breed earlier with more offspring. Their brains, livers, kidneys, adrenal glands and hearts are smaller. Laboratory rats are frequently subjected to dissection or micro-dialysis for the study of internal effects on organs and the brain especially for cancer or pharmacological research. Laboratory rats not sacrificed may be euthanized or in some case become pets.
Finally, Animal science also plays a role in animal rights and welfare advocacy. Animal welfare advocates and serves to promote humane treatment for all animals to help develop scientific understanding for their nature and educate the public about the ways that animals are abused, neglected or mistreated. They propose ways to improve conditions for animals and teach the public about the proper care of animals.
In conclusion, Animal Science offers a myriad of options for scientists and other animal enthusiasts and it is not restricted to animal production for human consumption as a source of protein.
