Hello Blurtters,
Plantain farming has been one of the commonest and recent Farm made survival of thousands of people here in Nigeria and also most in Africa as a whole because its at to strengthen the power of Agriculture throughout Nigeria as a country. Take for instance when we were growing up we used to have a very big farm section which has a lot of other crop specified named just like you have the Poultry section, which comprises of both the broiler birds, the turkey, the quails, the Cockerel chicken and so on. In another section of the farm we had then was the Cattle farm section. This section we acquired some pieces of land which is also used for farm production mainly but once in a while the Cattle always come to visit us1 by passing by. So in this particular University research Farm we have several branches of agricultural animals so individually and collectively we go there to acquire some pieces of land to farm.
When it drugs to a particular point will use most of our farmland to plant plantain, cassava, maize pineapple, sugarcane, cocoyam, Pepper and yam. So these are the types of crop we eventually went for and this was done before my dad died. For several years we went farming over and over again and it was fun or through although very stressful because will use nothing but manual labour which is us. We go there to clear the piece of land, stump, to do more of Hand ridges for our maize, cassava, yam and so on. Which later pay off because of cultivation we did was very successful and it also inviting us more on how to go about agricultural mindset lifestyle. Because when you did not practice what you know it will later affect you and your nearest future. But on this one this are the plantain I planted myself from the sucker seeds stage. and it took eight months for it to get matured and start fruiting although we have the improved varieties presently.
Harvesting plantain can be very fun but you need to have to take some things into consideration. When planting plantain, Weeding it and also finally harvesting it.
There are some rules and regulation guiding plantain farming which some of them are you need to weed regularly to make it grow up very faster and also to beat back the weed competition. There is also something about plantain which says that you need to prone them regularly in order to avoid diseases related. You also need to put more earth around them regularly to beat back wind and some form of erosion.
Enjoy the fruit of your labour dear...
Thanks 😊☺️☺️
