Everything About the recovery account and Power of Number 1 witness !

What is a recovery account ?

A recovery account is a account that is used to recover your account from hacks or events where you changed your password and forgot to save the new password. Your recovery account is needed to recover back your account in cases similar to what i mentioned above.

NOTE : In case you have lost your old keys as well then even the recovery account cannot help you with the recovery process. Also , account can only be recovered only if you initiate recovery of your account within the 30 days from when it was Hacked.

What i have seen is that generally your recovery account is the account that was used for creating your account on the blockchain.

For example le me take you to sign up page for blurt i.e https://joinblurt.com/ , here you can see four options are available to sign up on blurt.

• Now the two options that can be seen on the left side i.e pay with crypto and debit / credit card , or , paypal method are the methods that will create your account and in this case the recovery account for your created account will be @symbionts as they are running this service or it can be any other account that they are using for creating new account.

• The second option on the top right i.e creating a blurt account using any existing account on blurt. In this case the recovery account for newly created account will be the account used for creating your account.

For example :
If A creates account for B then A will also be the recovery account for B.

• The last option that is the free account creation method will be having @namemaker as your recovery account and the reason is simple , namemaker is a community account that creates free account for people.

So the conclusion is that your recovery account is simply the account that is was used for creating your account on the blockchain.

Can we change our recovery account ?

Another question that strikes users mind is that whether they can change the recovery account for their account afterwards or not and the answer to that is yes you can easily change your recovery account.

After visiting the above link simply click on change recovery account and you will be guided through how you can change the recovery account for yourself. It is easy but in case you want a tutorial on that write it to me in the comment section.

How to recover a account in case it is compromised due to a hack or any other reason.

So , how to recover a account in case it is being compromised due to a hack or any other reason. let us understand how to do that step by step.

NOTE : In case you have lost your old keys as well then even the recovery account cannot help you with the recovery process.

Step 1 : head over to the following link -> https://recovery.blurtwallet.com/

Step 2 : Click on Recover account option to come on the following webpage.

Step 3 : Here , write the name of the account you want to recover and also generate a public owner key for yourself by clicking on the get owner key button. ( Here the first key you see is your new master password and the second key is public owner key ).

Step 4 : Now you have to visit the visit -> https://recovery.blurtwallet.com/ again and now click on request recovery option.

Step 5 : Here your recovery account will request a recovery for your account by filling the following details.

This step need to be done by your recovery account like in my case powerclub will be doing this step and requesting the account recovery. The recovery account shall fill following details as shown below.

You can see in the above screenshot that my recovery account entered the new public owner key and it's active key to submit a recovery for my account.

Now we have completed two steps out of three for recovering an account. You can see below that we just completed step 2.

Step 6 : Now you can head over to block explorer to confirm that your recovery account requested a recovery for your account. visit the following link to confirm this -> https://blocks.blurtwallet.com/#/@name-of-your-recoveryaccount in my case it will be https://blocks.blurtwallet.com/#/@powerclub.

As you can see in the above screenshot powerclub made a request for recovering my account.

Step 7 : Now come back to the recovery account webpage and see step 3 there. Fill the required details here.

In my case the account to recover was sana-alam. Here is how you have to fill this :

• In first section you write your username ( account you are recovering )
• In second section paste your new master password
• In third place paste your old master password.

Now click on recover account and your account will then be recovered successfully. On successful recovery you will see the below screen.

The power of number 1 witness

So let us talk about the power of number 1 witness and let us also get aware with some questions that have been asked in last few days by various people on the platform.

1. Firstly , the number 1 witness of the blockchain can help you with the recovery of your account in case you are unable to contact with your recovery account.

2. The procedure in this case will be the same as i shared above , the only difference is that everything that was done by your recovery account will now be done by the number 1 witness.

3. So can a number 1 witness change your keys without your permission ? The asnwer is no as i shared above , it is you who share your public owner key with the recovery account / number 1 witness without which they cannot request a recovery for your account.

4. There can be one case/situation and let me explain that with the help of an example.

Let suppose the person who created a account for you was the number 1 witness , now if that person has stored your keys he can easily change your password.

Now as the number 1 witness himself is the recovery account for your account , you will be unable to recover your account.

This is why it is suggested that you set a recovery account for yourself to a trusted person only.`
