In a historic first, Bangladesh upset New Zealand in a Test match on Wednesday, defeating the World Test champions by an innings and eight wickets in the process. Ibadat Hossain, a fast bowler, took a career-high six for 46 to help the team to victory.

For the first time in their history, the tourists won their first Test match in New Zealand, and only their sixth overall in 61 tests away from home. They needed only 40 runs in the second innings to complete the historic victory.

After a single session on the final day, New Zealand was dismissed for 169 in their second innings, bringing the match to a close in one session.

The outcome is that Bangladesh is rated ninth in the world, with New Zealand ranking second.

It was New Zealand's first loss in 16 home Tests in the last four years, and it was their first defeat in the last four years. In doing so, they become the first Asian team to win a Test in New Zealand since Pakistan overcame the Kiwis at the Hamilton International Cricket Stadium in 2011.
