Lately a lot of cute little porcupines seem to be looking for our help! Just a few days ago, I posted about this cute little dude, that we found:
https://blurtlatam.com/animal/@outofthematrix/got-this-cute-little-dude-off-the-road
He was big and fat, ready for the winter and his hibernation.
It was different with this little dude... It is still a cub and (still) too small for the winter. Cubs need to have 600 gramms weight to be able to hibernate the whole winter over, so we are feeding him cat food (we have 4 cats) until he has enough weight, and then we will drive him deep into the forest and let him free to hibernate.
Awww so cute!! Too bad you can't pet it.
Wow! Look at that thing. Super cute!
Nice of you to try to help with some extra food, but cat food is made of meat, and porcupines can't eat meat. Please don't feed porcupines cat food! They eat clover and tree bark.
I checked forums here in Germany... They all say cat food...
Well I guess it's winter and there's no clover available... lol
Meow?
It’s a hedgehog that’s why and hedgehogs eat meat. Porcupine is a different aninal I think you just had a slight lost in translation issue here lol. This little fellow defo eats meat or can do.
I did this with a Fox over summer that was in our carpark it was looking rly rly thin and lying down unable to rly move. I gave it water and food and it perked up. I’ve fed it a few times now and I still see it so it definitely made it.
Ohhh, it's a hedgehog (omnivore)! I thought it was a porcupine (vegan). They look very similar but are only very distantly related. Thanks for the tip : )
Yay happy to hear from you! We all got a bit worried
