Barns of the Northwest! 😊
“Indian Summer”, and Silvertop headed out with the Mrs for a bit of exploring of the local countryside!☺️
So many of our local barns are starting to fall into disrepair, I wanted to capture some of these historic buildings before they slowly disappear………………..
Many of these barns were built with only hand tools, using “Old Growth” Douglas Fir beams!
It’s interesting to walk through these barns…………..
The first thing Silvertop usually does, is look for fasteners……or lack of!😮
Tightly cut post and beam construction, many with wooden pegs discreetly used for the joinery!
Craftsmanship long gone, replaced with high speed pneumatic nail guns!
Douglas Fir beams, replaced with what the locals call “Hem/ Fir”!😇
I’m not really sure how this terminology “Stuck”, but basically lumber is now stamped Spruce/Pine/Fir, and 99% of the time it’s only Spruce…………..😮
Fantastic wood for acoustic guitars, not the strongest for construction!
As they say, “Not all movement forward is progress!” 🙄
So very true!!!!
These “Old Timers” and the Old Carpenters worked hard and long hours to proudly build these beautiful historic barns!
Hopefully many will be maintained for future generations to marvel at!😊
For now, you have the opportunity to sit back and enjoy these photos…… time unfortunately continues to march on………………🙄
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike 😊
