The Best Yoga Pose to release stress

Yoga has been one form of exercise which flows down to us from 100s of years much before any other form of exercise was even known Yoga was being practiced and it's a pride of my Country that its origin is from India. All the concept of gym and other forms of physical fitness like aerobics and all came much later in the last century, but before that it was only Yoga. Nowadays even in aerobics most of the exercises that are being done are modified versions of Yoga. But sadly, Yoga is also diluted a lot, especially the new concepts of Hot Yoga, Power Yoga and all these new terms. I do not wish to comment on that much and I believe in keeping up with my traditional ways.

The one good part about doing Yoga is, it's just not for the physical body, but for the mind also. When one does Yoga, one is working on their physical and mental body both. Stress and anxiety are a common modern-day problem and when you go to a doctor you are prescribed with anti-depressant pills which have its own side effects, but people take it even after knowing it because in that moment they feel better. The thing is that in Yoga there is solution to all the health and mental problems. If done regularly with an integrated healthy lifestyle, then one will not need these pills at all.

Today let me talk about some of the poses which help in releasing stress and anxiety. The best part is that all these poses are the simplest one for the most complex problems and I wonder why people do not use them instead of taking medicines.

  1. Shavasana - In this pose you lie down on your back with your legs and hands spread apart and focus on your breathing. That's it, if you want to create a little variation in it then get yourself close to the wall and place your legs on the wall upright at 90 degrees. You will see that initially there is a lot of tension that you will feel in the back, shoulders, neck, thigs and calves, but in 5 to 10 minutes the tension will start easing out and you will feel relaxed. 20 minutes spent in this position and you will come out like as if you had a good long sleep. You can try this and let me know, how you feel.

  2. Balasana - In English known as the Child pose. This one I find it very relaxing. In this pose you kneel down and then you drop your head forward allowing the forehead to touch the ground. It gives a good stretch to the spine and hips and releases the tension. 10 minutes in it will make you feel rejuvenated. Not only that, it's also a grounding pose. Practicing this pose before going to sleep will give a very peaceful sleep.

These are 2 of my favorite poses that I work on regularly. Other than that there is Paschimottanasana, Sukhasana, Uttanasana and Bhujangasana also that can be practiced.

When there is stress and anxiety, our whole body feels stiff, we lack movement, the idea is to release that stiffness. Normally our spine, shoulders and neck are the most impacted and if we work on that then it's easy to load off the burden. In that time, it's not advisable to do intense poses, it is best to do poses that brings stability and allows the mind to slow down, so simple easy poses help rather than the complex ones.
