Celebrating the International Yoga Day

in yoga •  last year

It's been a few months that I last attended my Aerial Yoga class. I keep doing my normal daily Yoga practice but aerial yoga I am unable to do at home, since I do not have that kind of set up. A few days back my aerial yoga instructor messaged me saying that she would be conducting one special class on the International Yoga Day, which is today. I was immediately ready for it and enrolled for the class. There were not many participants, it was just 3 of us, from which one is a very young teenage girl. Guess, people here are not very much fond of it. And for the same reason there are not many classes being conducted. The ones that are there are very far from my home and to travel there regularly for the class is not practical for me. Once in few months, I take up some classes to fulfill my desires.

Today morning I attended the session and felt amazing, getting back on to the ropes always excites me. I feel like I am a free bird and so much in control of myself.

Yoga is a very good form of physical fitness, I have written loads about it in some of my previous blogs so I am not going to put too much on it as I am sure everyone is aware of how it benefits not only the body, but the mind also. It just not works at physical level but also at emotional and mental level. I have seen that people who regularly go to the gym and do heavy workouts some time finds it difficult to do simple form of Yoga poses. Even as simple as a Savasana, which you do not have to do anything but to lie down on your back with your legs and hands apart. After 5 to 10 mins they start feeling restless and want to make body movements. When you do Yoga you slowly gradually achieve a state of perfection and this whole process from start to achieving perfection teaches you many things like perseverance, dedication, discipline, focus.

Yoga allows you to accept your flaws and work towards it, you learn to slow down, you learn to quiet your mind and turn your focus inwards. There are many new-age form of Yogas but doing it the most traditional way, which is following the Hatha Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga practices is the best. While doing the Yoga the main focus is on your breadth, how you breathe in and breathe out at various steps matters, it brings awareness to you, it helps in raising your consciousness. There are so many benefits of Yoga that if one does it daily with discipline their physical and mental health will be in good harmony.

Meditation and Pranayama mixed with Yoga is like a power dose. One does not need to do all the complicated yoga poses to get the benefits. Even simple Yoga forms have amazing benefits on the body and mind. The more important is the discipline to do it daily. It not only improves the physical health but also the brain health.
