I went on a journey from Stuttgart to Budapest on a budget of only €4,99 by taking a bus. After spending a week in Budapest, I proceeded to Bucharest, and eventually reached Sofia.
During my month-long stay in Sofia, I decided to revamp my phone by resetting and reinstalling it. At that time, my technology was rather archaic, as I relied on an old tablet with an 8-inch display. My gadgets were sluggish, and I didn't possess a bank account or a debit card. Instead, I depended on someone who regularly sent me money via Western Union to wherever I happened to be.
In Sofia, numerous changes began to unfold as I tapped into the Google Play Store and discovered several apps that greatly facilitated my travels. Flixbus, Booking, Google Maps, and my phone as a camera were the sole tools I relied upon during this period.
I could conveniently make payments via PayPal through Flixbus, while in Booking, I specifically sought out places that did not require a credit card for reservation. Although I embraced these practices for some time, I eventually started utilizing Polarsteps to meticulously document my movements. Additionally, I installed an app to capture the places I visited, among others.
Now, I would like to showcase my travel data, which I have captured through a series of screenshots from the Polarsteps app.
Year 2019:
During the month of February, I successfully installed the Application in Sofia, thereby initiating the data gathering process.
Throughout that particular year, I adopted an environmentally conscious approach to my travels, opting for various means of transportation such as buses, trains, ships, walking, or hitchhiking.
The total distance covered during my journey was recorded at 26,049 Km. Accompanying this statement, the additional screenshot displays the locations at which I rested and the route I took.
Year 2020:
This year witnessed a significant global deceleration due to the onset of the pandemic. The existence of COVID-19 undeniably made our lives more challenging. Nevertheless, I managed to travel a total of 13,384 Km in spite of the circumstances. Starting from March, I found myself unexpectedly stranded in Split, Croatia.
During this year, a momentous change occurred as I embraced a minimalist lifestyle. Moreover, I expanded my mode of transportation to include air travel, thereby experiencing my first-ever flight in my nomadic existence.
Year 2021:
The year 2021 witnessed some improvement, albeit struggling with the ongoing pandemic. It was during this year that we experienced another round of lockdown, resulting in a global deceleration. During this period, I had the opportunity to visit Turkey and explore its fascinating historical heritage. Turkey is home to numerous ancient sites, including those associated with Alexander the Great and the biblical references. Moreover, it is also recognized as the birthplace of civilization, where humans first learned the art of construction 12,000 years ago.
In the span of this year, I covered a total distance of 17,486 Km.
Year 2022:
Now, let's turn our attention to the final year discussed in this post, as the year 2023 is still ongoing and will be addressed in a subsequent update. Therefore, make sure to stay tuned, subscribe to my blog, and remain up to date. The year 2022 brought forth an abundance of adventures, allowing me to witness the culmination of historical wonders that I had long yearned to see since my childhood. It was in this year that I had the splendid opportunity to hike through Petra, an experience that left a lasting impression.
Throughout 2022, my travels encompassed a staggering distance of 33,411 Km, marking the most extensive journey recorded since acquiring the tracker.
I travel since march 2017 and since Feb 2019 I use a tracker
Wow you still managed a lot of travel during lockdowns well done.
Yes, but less than I thought.... Thank you!
Lockdown made me lacey 🫣
