England's upcoming five-Test series against India in January will feature three debutants, adding fresh faces to the squad. The 16-player lineup unveiled on Monday includes Surrey's fast bowler, Gus Atkinson, along with Lancashire spinner Tom Hartley and Somerset's Shoaib Bashir.
Gus Atkinson, who took 20 wickets at an outstanding average of 20.20 in five matches this year, was a key player in Surrey's victory in the County Championship. In India, he also made contributions to England's ODI World Cup team.
Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir gained valuable experience training with the England Lions squad in the United Arab Emirates last November.
Rehan Ahmed, the 19-year-old leg-spinner, makes a return to the squad following his notable five-wicket performance against Pakistan in December 2022, making him England's youngest-ever test debutant.
Ben Stokes will lead the squad, having recently announced his unavailability for the upcoming Indian Premier League to prioritize workload and fitness management.
The series is scheduled to kick off in Hyderabad on January 25.
