Someone who has some skills, but does not have confidence may need to prove whether he can do it or not. Most of the time, a fight starts from a reason that's silly and laughable.

When you get into a situation like this, how you observe and avoid that is a skill. You might not like to step back when you have the dominance and control and you know you can easily fight and beat them. The thing is, you do not need to prove you can do that when you have confidence.

Before engaging in a fight, bad guys think they are stronger and can do anything they want. If it is an ego battle, you can have more options. You can step back and get out of there without a fight. In case the attackers determine to attack you, you may not have any options to get out of there without a fight.

Again, situational awareness can help you a lot. If you know that things happen in particular locations, you can avoid being there. Or, if you have to go there, you go there with preparation. When you have preparation, you know exactly what to do against what.

Physical fitness and mental fitness both are important when you practice martial art. You learn to fight, it does not mean you love to engage in a fight. It can be you do not like to fight and you know what to do when there is a fight.

Martial art is to stop the violence, not to create more. It is about spreading peace, not violence. Sometimes parents think that if their kids learn martial arts, maybe they will go out and have a fight. Usually, the opposite thing happens.
