The FIFA Fever in the City

The city is going crazy with the FIFA World cup. These days in the evening time wherever we go out there are big screens put up and places are crowded with people. I am not a Football fan but when you look at the energy around you feel tempted to be a part of it. The vibe is so cheerful and the people are rejoicing in the spirit of the game.

There are many venues in the city where there are big screens put up. Since yesterday was a holiday for us we decided to go for the Brazil - Croatia match at one of the venues. Where they say it's a Football Fan Festival. The event is being regularly hosted at the Oman Convention center ground and there is a ticket to enter which is very nominally priced. With a variety of other activities we can watch the match in that venue. Every world cup game from Qatar is being shown live at this venue and several other venues in the city. There are food stalls set up with a a mix of local and international cuisine and game areas for children, a lot of other activities and entertainment, all in one place. The set up is just made like a stadium with 3 big screens. It was my first time and I really enjoyed a lot, it was a very cheerful experience for me.

Yesterday between Brazil and Croatia majority of the people were in support of Brazil. But I was supporting Croatia and they won. I was so happy. Even though Croatia won, people were in high spirits and the Croatia supporters were going completely mad on Brazil supporters making fun of them.

I was actually not expecting this grand type of arrangement. I thought it would just be some screens and a open seating area, but this was much more than that.

Year wise games and the winning team mentions were there as we walked through the panels

This is the Screening area, where there are 3 big screen set ups and a seating space. There were limited seats at the podium and then a big seating area at the ground. We had reached early and there were some seats at the podium available but we chose to sit on the ground because all the fun was there.

This was just getting started to fill up, by the time the match began the place was packed and then many people had to stand on the sides

The best part of such events are that even though if you do not understand the game, you just flow in to the energy with the crowd and enjoy the game. There was cheering, shouting, dancing all around. I wonder why I did not go earlier. After yesterday's experience we are planning to visit again for the semi finals and finals.
