On Thursday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Pakistani captain Babar Azam captain of the ODI Team of the Year 2021. Fakhar Zaman, a left-handed batter, was also named to the squad, but no Indians were included.
Despite only playing six matches in 2021, Babar amassed 405 runs at an average of 67.50 and two centuries.
In difficult away trips to South Africa and England, Pakistan's talismanic captain made crucial contributions, winning Player of the Match awards in both of their victories in the former. In Birmingham, he also hit a memorable ton in favorable seamer conditions.
