Work began in earnest for me after the new year celebrations and somehow, my schedule seems to have gotten a bit busier than it was last year. Daily, I try to make time to drop a post on Hive and I want to keep doing it this way.
It's past 9 pm and after a hectic day, I'm thinking about what to write on such that it would portray me and also appeal to my readers. Then I went through my email and came across this question.
One question I asked myself as a prelude to answering the first question is —am I at my best every day? Well, the answer to this is in the negative. There are days when I don't feel like giving my best either to others or myself and then there are days I give it my all.
Being my best self means using the resources at my disposal to pursue my goals, work out any challenges and achieve those goals.
To be my best self every day, I make a deliberate point to start each day well. This means sleeping at a decent hour, getting good rest (though it may not be sufficient sometimes), and waking up early. The early birds make the most of each day so I am always up as early as 5 am. Unless it's a holiday then I sleep in.
Recently, the 24 hours in a day seems insufficient to achieve the things we need to. Time is invaluable; once gone, it cannot be reclaimed. It's best to make the most of each time. I work as fast as I can to achieve something substantial in this 'short' 24 hours.
I also ensure I read as much as I can each day. Before Hive, I always had a book with me and read up to 2-3 books per week. Now that I am on Hive, it's a little difficult to keep up with this routine. I still read books but not as much as I used to. Reading is a part of my daily life; an exercise for my mind and spirit. I could not go through a day without reading.
By cultivating the habit of reading for hours every day, I increase my knowledge and of course, put this knowledge to good use by developing aspects of my life and others. I sometimes spread this knowledge in my writing. Lately, I have not been writing as much as I want to and I am working on changing this.
I also spent time with my family. This part is important. It feeds not only my heart and emotional side but it also means I can be there for them when they need me to. What is life without them?
Being my best self is first of all a thing of the mind. I have to put on the 'best self' mindset for me to succeed in it. This means being my best self will involve some changes —finding what fits and adopting it.
My health also matters when it comes to being my best self. I am not a superpower and need help sometimes. I should be ready to ask for it and accept it when it's offered.
These are some of the ways I try to be my best self.
