They say that security is everyone's business and by implication, it means that citizens should make reports to the Police whenever they witness any crime.
Yeah, it is your civic responsibility to make such reports to the right authorities, but it's hard to do that when you are in a part of the world where the Police act in a very doubtful way. Nigerian Police in particular is not very duteous, benevolent or efficient when they get reports.
To add salt to injury, their investigation skill is very crude and poor so, it's not a surprise that a lot of Nigerians do not report crimes. This is the lesson I learnt the hard way when I filed a police report back in the first quarter of 2020. It was such a horrible experience that made me regret having to make a case out of the whole situation.
The way our Police extort people whenever they make police reports is so ridiculous. If you need them to go for an arrest, they will bill you for each Policeman that joins the team that will make the arrest. As if that's not enough, they will ask you to fuel their car and they will also expect you to pay them for doing exactly what they are paid to do.
It gets worse when someone gets you arrested by the Police. I always imagined that the due process of such arrest would be for the police to do an investigation and see if you are truly meant to be arrested, but that's barely the case.
The harsh reality is that if I'm so inclined to get someone arrested because I dislike their hairstyle or I dislike their walking style, I can have the person arrested and behind bars until the person pays a discharge fee. Haha. There is no such thing as innocence before being proven guilty or going through the legal procedure of having an accused stand trial. Nope. That only works for those that have the financial capacity to pull strings.
Do you see? Isn't this a bad road to go down for the Police force of any country?
The embarrassing thing is that our men in uniform no longer have a problem when it comes to manhandling lads. If you are young and driving a cool car, they will treat you as if you are a fraudster and a cybercriminal.
Oh, before I forget, they now kick seven shades of shit out of anyone that dares to speak ill of them. Haha. I hope they don't see this post 🤡.

Dicen que la seguridad es asunto de todos y por implicación, significa que los ciudadanos deben denunciar a la Policía cada vez que sean testigos de algún delito.
Sí, es tu responsabilidad cívica hacer esos informes a las autoridades correspondientes, pero es difícil hacerlo cuando estás en una parte del mundo donde la policía actúa de manera muy dudosa. La policía nigeriana en particular no es muy obediente, benévola o eficiente cuando recibe informes.
Para colmo de males, su capacidad de investigación es muy tosca y deficiente, por lo que no sorprende que muchos nigerianos no denuncien los delitos. Esta es la lección que aprendí de la manera más difícil cuando presenté un informe policial en el primer trimestre de 2020. Fue una experiencia tan horrible que me hizo arrepentirme de tener que hacer un caso de toda la situación.
La forma en que nuestra Policía extorsiona a las personas cada vez que hacen informes policiales es tan ridícula. Si necesitas que vayan a realizar una detención, te facturarán por cada Policía que se sume al equipo que realizará la detención. Como si eso no fuera suficiente, le pedirán que llene de combustible su automóvil y también esperarán que les pague por hacer exactamente lo que se les paga.
Se pone peor cuando alguien te arresta por la policía. Siempre imaginé que el debido proceso de tal arresto sería que la policía hiciera una investigación y viera si realmente estaba destinado a ser arrestado, pero ese no es el caso.
La dura realidad es que si estoy tan inclinado a que arresten a alguien porque no me gusta su peinado o su forma de caminar, puedo hacer que la persona sea arrestada y tras las rejas hasta que pague una tarifa de liberación. Ja ja. No existe la inocencia antes de que se demuestre la culpabilidad o de pasar por el procedimiento legal de enjuiciamiento de un acusado. No. Eso solo funciona para aquellos que tienen la capacidad financiera para mover los hilos.

Lo vergonzoso es que nuestros hombres de uniforme ya no tienen problemas cuando se trata de maltratar a los muchachos. Si eres joven y conduces un coche genial, te tratarán como si fueras un estafador y un ciberdelincuente.
