WHICH IS MY FAVOURITE PLACE?

Well, to start with, I must say that I am from Nigeria and I have not been to many places, but I've been to a few places. I am not much of a traveller so that's one of the reasons I've not been to many places.

Out of the 36 states we have here in Nigeria, I've only been to 3 states. These states include:

  • Rivers State (My state of Origin)
  • Bayelsa State
  • Delta State

My State of origin is Rivers State and that is where I have lived my entire life. I hardly leave that state except something really important makes me travel out. At the time of this post, I am currently in Rivers State. I came in a few days ago from school in Bayelsa State for the Christmas and New year holidays.

Bayelsa State is where I school. The university where I school is Federal University Otuoke, and it's located in Bayelsa State. School has been the only thing that has made me travel to Bayelsa State, Nothing else.

I am currently studying a 4 years B.Sc. degree course which has actually turned out to a 5½ years due to the Covid-19 pandemic last year as schools were all shutdown in the country. At the time of this post, I am in my final year, 400 level and by April next year being 2022, I'll be graduating. The course which I am studying is computer science and informatics. It was a journey I started since November 2017.

Now, Delta State is a state I only visit once a year, and its only in Decembers. This is because we always have a national occasion in my church, God's Kingdom Society where we celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

We always celebrate this in the second week of every December, and at the time of this post, the occasion is on going, but it's an online celebration due to the new Omicron virus. We connect via zoom and watch the program and celebrate online.

Of all of these states, my favourite is Rivers State, and the place where I stay is a town called Ogu/Bolo. It's an Okrika tribe, and I love it so much. It is my home town. Just as they say, "There's no place like home", I really love that place.

WHY I LOVE OGU/BOLO

One of the reasons why I love Ogu is that it is a very calm place. There's no discrimination of any tribe or ethnic group. Everybody lives in peace and harmony. In my town, you can fine other ethnics and tribes, but there is no discrimination as I have earlier stated. It is peaceful.

There's a river in town and with that, the occupation of people there is mostly fishing. We also have market places as well as shops in the town.

THE DOWNSIDE OF OGU/BOLO

Though the town is peaceful and great, there are times it gets boring for me. Electricity is one of the major problems in my town. Sometimes we have power and sometimes we don't. At the time of this post, there has not been power supply for over 3 months now and it's so annoying and frustrating.

People no longer depend on the general power supply. Some have gotten themselves power plants, some solar, while some medium and large power generators which they use at home as well as for their various businesses.

Women who have shops often use medium size power generators for shops in order to run their business successfully, especially those who sell fishes and need power on their fridges to preserve the fishes.

Sometimes when I come for holidays, my friends might not have returned or taken breaks from their schools as well, and I am left alone. Sometimes we get breaks the same time, and we meet in town. My friends school is the same Rivers State, while I school in Bayelsa State, so we don't always get breaks at the same time, except for national, Christmas or New Year breaks.

Other than these, this place is a very lovable place and I am proud to be a son of the soil. I really love this place and I always will.

I know I can't stay here forever, so I am really hoping for something to make me travel out of the state, something that can make me travel to other states in the country and even to other countries.
