Wolf spider and Egg Sac

in r2cornell •  2 years ago

Hello everyone.
These spiders are very common here in Bosnia and Herzegovina. You can see them outside and sometimes inside as well.
While in garden I noticed this spider and its egg sac.

According to this page this is on of 11 common spider found in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It is called Hogna radiata or Radiated Wolf Spider. It may be different species also since there are many species of Wolf spider) but Radiated Wolf Spider is most common spider in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Also it says that they dont use web to catch prey and that they wait for insects and catch them.
There is retroreflective tissue in their eyes will produce glow if you flash light in their eyes. ( source )

It was nice to learn about them and I did not know that they dont use web to catch prey.

According to here females lay approximately 100 or more eggs and they carry this egg sac with them.

It was interesting to see Wolf spider wit its egg sac.
Spider was quite fast but I manage to take couple photos.
Long time ago I took similar photo with spider and its egg sac. I will share it bellow.
