How to stay healthy this harmattan Season.

It is the harmattan season. It is the season that occurs between the end of November and the middle of March in West Africa. It is characterized by low temperatures, dry air, and increased air pollution which leads to the widespread of airborne diseases such as cough. The dust particles from the dry air affect the health of the people negatively by causing respiratory diseases such as catarrh and nasal congestion which usually leads to headaches. There is also widespread malaria during this season, especially among people with the AA blood group.

The common sickness or diseases in town now are cough, Catarrh, Headache, and Malaria. There are ways to avoid being infected with this disease. Although people think of them as inevitable during this season, it is. It can be prevented. There are ways we can avoid harmattan diseases and stay healthy during the season.

Tips on how to stay healthy during this season(harmattan)
1.Stay hydrated always
The best way to stay hydrated is to drink enough water. Other drinks and food such as fruit juices milk, and herbal teas can also help hydrates the body.

2.Eat fruits and veggies
During this season, fruits help to keep the body nourished while vegetables help to build the immune system

3.Use good moisturizer
It is important to use a good moisturizer on your skin this season. It keeps the skin from drying out and this helps to prevent cracks on the skin. Apply good creams on your body.

4.Wear nose masks
Nose masks help prevent dust particles from entering the nose during respiration thereby reducing the risk of getting infected with Catarrh

5.Avoid dusty areas
The major cause of diseases/sicknesses during this season is dust particles in the air. Make a conscious effort to avoid dusty areas to prevent yourself from inhaling dust particles.

The aforementioned tips, if well observed can prevent you from harmattan sicknesses and diseases.
