While at home one day, we got an opportunity to work for a really short period which we gladly jumped on after convincing our parents (my sister and I). It was our first time doing that, and anyone would have known we were learners, lol.
One of those days as we worked, I was so tired and exhausted that I had to cover a part of my face with an handkerchief as I attended to people.
After a while, I went inside the store to take a quick break, but soon enough, I discovered I wasn't the only one in there.
Curious about who was sharing the space with me, I turned back to see a handsome young man who immediately introduced himself as "Mark Emmanuel".
He said he had been watching me for some time and needed to see my face, but before I could even oblige him, he took off the handkerchief and slowly muttered the words, "you're so beautiful!"
Oh, God of romance is that you? 😭 What was a 16year old girl to do? I melted instantly!
The boldness, the articulation of words... gosh! It was so good! Wasn't that what always happened in the novels I read? I mean, this was how people met the love of their lives! OMG, I'm living a dream...
Those were my thoughts as he asked for my phone number and bade me farewell.
He came around some other time to say hi, and you needed to see my countenance - I was legit glowing 😂
After that period, I stopped working and everyone parted ways. That weekend, the first text I received was from Mark Emmanuel telling me how much he loved me.
I should let you know that by this time, the butterflies in my belly had gone wild.
But here's the thing -- he was asking me to be his girlfriend, and as a staunch Jesus girl with very strict upbringing, I couldn't say yes because it didn't feel right, it just didn't feel right.
But what if he's my future husband though? Is that how I'll miss him? Decisions, decisions, decisions... Sigh!
Fast forward to when a friend of mine came visiting, she had already gained admission to the University of Ibadan and was a student there.
While we spoke and she told me about school, I quickly remembered that my handsome prince charming-to-be, 'Mark Emmanuel' had told me he was a student at the University of Ibadan.
With excited eyes, I quickly mentioned to her that I knew someone at her university, she was excited as well till she asked for his name, and his course of study.
I told her...
"Banking and finance? There's no such thing as banking and finance in my university!" my friend blurted out.
I was shook and didn't believe her until we took the brochure to check... Lmao, just lmao!
My friend looked at me and kept laughing - she laughed me to scorn!
Aha! You guessed right! That was the last time I ever spoke to him, lol. He had obviously been lying as I didn't even see the name he gave me anywhere 😭😅
Anyway, I want to pray for you - as you go about today and always, you will not fall for the tricks of the enemy. You won't be a victim of enemies coming as friends.
Before they make their plans, you would have outsmarted them. God will keep you from falling for the lies of "Mark Emmanuels that study Banking and finance at the University of Ibadan"
You stay discerning always!
