At last, INEC announces when collation of results in Kogi governorship election will begin
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Gabriel Longpet, shared that the collation of results for the Kogi State governorship election is scheduled to commence at 10 am on Sunday, as revealed in an interview conducted in Lokoja.
The election took place on Saturday across all 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kogi state. However, INEC reported instances of electoral malpractices, particularly concerning pre-filled result sheets.
This issue prompted the suspension of elections in certain wards, with affected areas including Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ogori/Magongo, Okehi, and Okene LGAs.
Notably, Ogori/Magongo faced the most serious incidents, impacting nine out of the 10 registration areas.
INEC, through a statement by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner & Member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, strongly denounced the use of pre-filled result sheets, deeming it entirely unacceptable.
The Commission emphasized that results not originating from the official Commission's process in the Polling Units would not be accepted.
Expressing a commitment to discouraging misconduct, INEC suspended the election in the nine wards of Ogori/Magongo LGA affected by the pre-filled result sheet incidents.
Investigations into similar occurrences in other LGAs are ongoing, and the Commission pledged to announce the outcomes, including the course of action, within the next 24 hours.
President Tinubu Begins Monthly Payment Of 25,000 Naira To 15 Million Households
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration has initiated the disbursement of 25,000 Naira to 15 million households nationwide.
As reported by The Punch, this action stems from an agreement between the Nigerian federal government and organized labor earlier this month.
Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, highlighted that approximately 61 million Nigerians are set to benefit from this scheme.
According to The Punch's report, she explained, "15 million households will be receiving 75,000 Naira over three months. This equates to about 61 million Nigerians directly benefitting from the conditional cash transfer."
In practical terms, beneficiaries will receive 25,000 Naira for each month from October to December, resulting in a cumulative total of 75,000 Naira over the three-month period.
Beyond this financial assistance, the federal government has also committed to implementing additional measures aimed at addressing poverty throughout the country.
The move reflects a broader strategy to alleviate economic challenges and improve the well-being of a significant number of Nigerian households.
