It was still dark when we hurried to leave the inn. The cold air of the mountains did not dampen our intention to hunt for photos of the sunrise from the top of Pantan Terong. The peak is a tourist spot located on a hilltop in the Gayo highlands in Bebesan District, Central Aceh District.
It takes about 15 minutes from the inn which is located in the city center to the top. The road to the location is very smooth, but when you are almost at the top, you have to watch out for the uphill and winding roads. Adult visitors are charged an entry fee of IDR 5,000 per person.
We arrived on time. A few minutes before the morning sun appeared. A tinge of orange color penetrates from behind the clouds just above the Freshwater Lake which is similar to a giant bowl. We are not alone, there are several local tourists who also witness the beauty of that morning from a location with an altitude of 1,800 above sea level.
