Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland, the others are the Eko and Carter bridges. It was the longest bridge in Africa until 1996 when the 6th October Bridge located in Cairo was completed. The bridge starts from Oworonshoki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi expressway and Lagos-Ibadan expressway, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.

It's official name is Ibrahim Babangida Bridge, and it's total length is 11.8 km i.e. about 7.3 miles. It was constructed by Julius Berger, PGH Venture.
According to a traffic report on the Third Mainland Bridge in 2002, there were 180,902 vehicles in both directions in 12 hours, which might have doubled or tripled after 16 years.
The third mainland bridge is a very attractive, the view is fantastic and alluring. Some travel on the water, so sometimes you see some canoes and boats on the water, while some are fishing.
