The story of the young and the old king: a lesson to learn

in r2cornell •  3 years ago
A young king did something that offended the old king. The old King got annoyed and sentenced the young king to death. It was just a little thing that started the rebellion; the young king had many supporters and this very fact was going to be his albatross, but all of a sudden, the old king changed his mind and called the young king and said,"well, on second thought, I don't wish to kill you , if you pass my test you will live, but if you fail you must die".

And what was the test?
The young king was to walk from the king's palace to the market with a cup of water filled to the brim and must not allow one drop to fall to the ground. On the day of the test, the young king took the water from the king's palace and made his way to the market place. On one side of the road were some people hailing him:
"Down with the king; disobey him".

And on the other side were others pulling him down, rebuking him:that he is not a serious person and that he is a bad boy. But he carried his cup and moved on and until he got to the market place, not a single drop of water fell from the cup.

And after he had finished, someone asked him how he succeeded and the young king replied" I refused to listen to those who were praising me; I refused to listen to those who were insulting me. I just focused my attention on the water".

Lesson to learn

Those people who were praising him and those who were criticising him were a source of distraction to him but he got himself focused and refused to listen to any, the abusive words they were raining on him would have gotten him angry and the anger would have made him throw off the water and he would have lost his life .
The praises he was receiving would have made him to puffed up and at the process the water would have drop but he got focused and pay no attention to those distractions and that spared his life.

We should avoid being distracted in life.
