My Valentine Day's Experience By @anselam.

We are in the valentine month and as people are now reminiscing about the good, bad or ugly experience they previously had on valentine's day, I am also here to share one of my experience on such day.

This dates back to when I was just a sophomore in high school (secondary school).

I had a crush on this girl at the time and we were in the early phase of an awkward high school romance. Valentine’s Day was just at the corner and it was one of those situations where you are not very sure if it’s too early to get something for the other person or not.

I remember trying to avoid the awkwardness of one of us getting something and the other deciding not to, so I manned up and just asked her to be my valentine. I remember that I had no idea what to get her, though.

Like the smooth teenage boy that I was, I came up with a genius idea: and I simply asked her what she wanted! Very romantic. She told me something basic (probably chocolate or a stuffed bear or something) and she then turned the tables on me and asked what I wanted.

In trying to be charmingly funny, I jokingly listed out a mixture of reasonable and ridiculous answers. Something like, “Oh just some chocolate, or flowers, the moon, a new car. Anything you can manage.”

Well Valentine’s Day finally came and I remember seeing her in campus randomly that day. Typically, we didn't see each other until lunchtime. I observed she had a medium sized Valentine’s Day bag and I assumed that some other dude has been showering her with gifts that day.

When I eventually met her, we exchanged gifts, I realized that I was wrong because the bag was for me, and inside it was everything I had asked for.

Right now I can't remember everything I asked for and everything that was inside the bag, but I remember a few things that have stucked in my mind until this day:

Because I had asked for chocolate, a few Hershey’s kisses was in it.

Because I had asked for flowers, she had some of those fake fabric rose petals scattered at the bottom of the bag.

Because I had asked for the moon, she had one of those individually wrapped babybel cheeses’ inside it (this one was my favorite, I appreciated the clever humor)

Because I had asked for a new car, I got a small Hot Wheels sports car. Funny.

As funny as it was for her to put all those stuffs together, I still think of it as the best gift I have ever received for Valentine’s Day because it was so awkward and clever at the same time that I couldn’t help but appreciate it.

I want to thank @bestkizito and @blurt2naira for bringing up this opportunity of sharing valentine day's experience.
