Previously, I used to eat buffets in Taiwan, but I didn't really know much about the names of the dishes in the buffet. I always looked at the sales of the dishes, ordering chicken, beef, and the like. Recently, I went to a buffet with a friend and saw Chinese dishes with English names. I actually saw whether I understood XD or not
For example, there are four different names for chicken alone. Apart from fried chicken, which I can understand, other names such as sweet and sour chicken and Zuo Zongtang chicken are really difficult for me to imagine their taste after reading the names. As a friend said, Zuo Zongtang chicken is very popular in North America, and almost every Chinese restaurant has this dish, so I have gained some knowledge.
As for other dishes, I also order them casually based on my intuition, but it seems that each dish tastes strong and slightly sweet. I don't know if it's to cater to foreigners' tastes. Anyway, after eating the buffet, I really drank a lot of water.
Then there are some Hong Kong style snacks, such as Shaomai, fried Spring rolls, and barbecued buns. My friends and I also ordered a lot, but the taste was OK, but it was not like the feeling we had in Taiwan.
Although both are Chinese food, there are still differences between Chinese food in Canada and Taiwan. However, for me, who has eaten more sandwiches and hamburgers, I still cherish the opportunity to eat Chinese food.
