I like your take on labels. I think they do restrict your freedom kind of like preferences. They are something that you can easily get stuck on and they can restrict your actions.

For example if you label your self as someone who enjoys elephants, all your friends might start giving you elephants in all kinds of forms. After too many elephants you might think twice about labeling yourself or stating your preferences with too much conviction.

I think a lot of people do like those labels a lot though and take much of their personally identity from them. There is a lot of historical energy around this with our use of last names that described our work.

Things do seem to be changing towards there being less emphasis on all of these labels and preferences.

Even worse imagine dating someoen based on matching preferences then you realise you don’t like those things anymore lol
