Golden Shrimp Plant

The more I research the flower photos that I took, the more fascinated I am about nature. Because there are more non-native plants that have been around quite some time and I really thought it is a native plant.

Just like golden shrimp plant or Pachystachys lutea is actually native to Peru in South America, but I have no idea how it ends up around my place.

This plant usually being used as a fence plant, because it can grow really tall, and always bear flowers on hotter days.

A back and white version of it

what is more interesting is that the golden-colored part of the plant is not actually its flower, but it is called bracts which is modified or specialized kinds of leaves.

And the true color of its flower is the white one, which comes out in between the bracts.

And from this angle it looks pretty similar to a shrimp head and eyes, maybe it got its name from it. : )
