Along Regents Canal with Nat
Bang in the middle of the second wave, in Autumn, we decided to meet up and go shooting the streets behind the revamped King's Cross area in London. It used to be a hell hole, the King's Cross and St. Pancras area, back in the day. It was full of drug dealers and their clients, sex dealers and their clients, and all manner of other creepy crawlies. These days, it's a pretty up-market area nobody can afford to live in. It's also home to many startups and big tech companies like Google/Youtube.
The old warehouses have been renovated and repurposed but, unlike in East London, they actual buildings and their charm have been preserved. They've done a pretty good job in the area I think.
Having said that, there are some new structures that have gone up, and are going up, in the area. Thankfully they don't look as offensive as what's happened/happening in Stratford and Bow in the east end of town.
Nat and I have known each other for nearly 20 years! It's amazing actually when I think about it. It's also amazing that she still looks exactly the same, like a vampire that doesn't age. We've also been on several photo walks together. We end up spending more time catching up over coffee. We did a bit of that too this time, of course, we did manage to walk a significant length of the Regents Canal from King's Cross to Camden.
I was surprised to see Camden Market as crowded as it was - as if there wasn't any pandemic out there. It was a mixed day, with some overcast and thick clouds out times, but we did get some random spells of bright sunshine. I felt comfortable, even within the crowd, because most people were being responsible I think.
We stopped for some delicious kiosk food near the canal. I had chips covered in melted cheese and some spices. Simple but so delicious.
We took away some coffee from Camden Market and walked all the way back on the canal to King's Cross while taking more photos even though it was getting dark. The sky was putting on a show as well, so we got a few snaps of those too.
I tried to onboard Nat to the blockchain that day, again, after having failed a year earlier. I even mentioned that I would be posting the photos on the blockchain to monetise them. That usually gets through to most people. She showed interest, and even said she'd do it, but you know how it goes - out of sight, out of mind. Perhaps I'll send her link to this post just to jog her memory 😌
