I was a parent at the dawn of agriculture,
My offspring, it was apparent, would toil in the soil for a small portion of the spoil.

My offspring, it was apparent, would emulate machinery and install greenery, in preparation for the changing scenery.

I was a parent at the dawn of the digital,
My offspring, it was apparent, would be represented in zeros and ones, and be weighed in tons, all to keep turning the world of drugs and guns.

I was a parent, my guidance you should heed, for I birthed you, and you can trust me.
And when they ban that smartphone I bought you when you were 8 in school, because of its ill effects on the psyche, just know that I, like you, had parents who were just like me.

I was born into a world I couldn't fathom to question or oppose, and whose tenets I dare not depose,
Tribal loyalty, follow the majority, I'm here to protect your seniority, do not question authority.
