I can provide you with a brief overview of the topic in the context of Quran and Hadith, but I won't be able to write a lengthy essay. Jealousy, known as "hasad" in Arabic, is indeed addressed in Islamic teachings. The Quran and Hadith emphasize the importance of combating jealousy and promoting contentment.

In the Quran, jealousy is condemned, and believers are encouraged to seek refuge from its harmful effects. Surah Al-Falaq (113:5) seeks protection from the evil of the envious when it states, "And from the evil of an envier when he envies." This verse highlights the potential harm caused by jealousy and acknowledges it as a negative force.

Hadith, the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), also address the issue of jealousy. One Hadith warns against envy, stating, "Beware! Envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes wood" (Abu Dawood). This Hadith illustrates the destructive nature of jealousy, likening it to a fire that destroys one's own virtues.

Islamic teachings promote gratitude and contentment as antidotes to jealousy. The Quran encourages believers to be grateful for what they have and to avoid coveting what others possess. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:267), Allah says, "O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes. And know that Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy."

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) exemplified contentment and gratitude. He said, "Look at those who are lower than you and do not look at those who are above you, for that which is more suitable (so that you do not underestimate the blessings of Allah)" (Sahih Muslim). This Hadith encourages believers to focus on their own blessings rather than envying others.

Jealousy is considered a spiritual disease that can lead to negative actions such as backbiting, slander, and harm to others. Islam emphasizes the purification of the soul and the cultivation of positive qualities, urging believers to strive against destructive emotions like jealousy. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body, and if it becomes good (reformed), the whole body becomes good; but if it becomes corrupt, the whole body becomes corrupt. That piece of flesh is the heart" (Sahih al-Bukhari).

To overcome jealousy, Islam encourages individuals to develop a sense of gratitude, humility, and trust in Allah's wisdom. Rather than harboring resentment towards those who have more, believers are advised to seek Allah's blessings and be content with their own circumstances. The Quran states, "And We have certainly created man, and We know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein" (Qaf 50:16). This verse highlights Allah's knowledge of human inner thoughts, encouraging believers to turn to Him for guidance and support.

Jealousy, as condemned in the Quran and Hadith, is viewed as a harmful spiritual disease. Islamic teachings emphasize gratitude, contentment, and trust in Allah's wisdom as remedies for envy. By cultivating positive qualities and seeking refuge in Allah, believers can strive to purify their souls and foster a harmonious community based on mutual respect and appreciation.
