The Quran and Hadith, foundational texts in Islam, offer guidance on various aspects of life, including the relationship between God, fathers, pleasure, and displeasure. Understanding these perspectives requires delving into the scriptures and teachings.

In the Quran, the concept of pleasing God is fundamental. Numerous verses emphasize the importance of obeying God's commandments and seeking His pleasure. One such verse is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197), where believers are urged to please God through acts of worship, particularly during pilgrimage: "And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa (piety, righteousness). So fear Me, O you who are understanding." This verse highlights the correlation between God's pleasure and adherence to His guidance.

Additionally, the Quran emphasizes the significance of respecting and obeying parents. Surah Al-Isra (17:23) specifically addresses the duty towards parents: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word." This underscores the idea that pleasing God involves showing kindness and respect to parents.

On the contrary, displeasing God is associated with disobedience and deviation from His guidance. The Quran warns against actions that incur God's displeasure. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:205), it is stated, "And when he goes away, he strives throughout the land to cause corruption therein and destroy crops and animals. And Allah does not like corruption." This verse illustrates that actions leading to corruption displease God.

Likewise, disobedience to parents is strongly discouraged in the Quran. Surah Al-Ankabut (29:8) highlights the consequences of mistreating parents: "And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do." This verse indicates that disobeying parents can lead to God's displeasure.

Hadith, the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), further elucidate these Quranic teachings. The Prophet emphasized the significance of pleasing God through obedience to parents. A well-known Hadith narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud states: "The pleasure of the Lord lies in the pleasure of the parent, and the anger of the Lord lies in the anger of the parent" (Sunan Ibn Majah). This Hadith underscores the direct connection between God's pleasure and a father's pleasure, as well as the parallel between God's displeasure and a father's displeasure.

Another Hadith reinforces the idea that God's displeasure is linked to disobedience to parents. Abu Huraira reported that a man asked the Prophet (PBUH) about the major sins, and he replied, "Associating anything with Allah, disobedience to parents..." (Sahih Bukhari). This Hadith emphasizes the gravity of disobedience to parents as a major sin, highlighting its role in incurring God's displeasure.

The Quran and Hadith collectively stress the importance of seeking God's pleasure through obedience to His commandments, which includes showing kindness and respect to parents. Conversely, displeasing God is associated with disobedience to His guidance and mistreatment of parents. The teachings consistently emphasize the parallel between God's pleasure and a father's pleasure, as well as the connection between God's displeasure and a father's displeasure. Thus, aligning one's actions with virtuous conduct towards parents becomes integral in attaining God's pleasure and avoiding His displeasure according to Islamic teachings.
