In Islam, depriving someone of their rightful possessions is considered a serious transgression, and the Quran and Hadith provide guidance on ethical conduct and justice. The teachings emphasize the importance of fairness, honesty, and compassion in all dealings. The Quran, the holy book of Islam, and the Hadith, the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), offer insights into the consequences of such actions and the virtues of upholding justice.

The Quran repeatedly emphasizes the principle of justice and warns against oppression. In Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:8), it states, "O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do." This verse underscores the importance of impartiality and fairness, even in the face of personal animosity.

Moreover, the Quran condemns those who wrongfully take the property of others. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:188), it says, "And do not consume one another's wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful]." This verse highlights the gravity of unjustly taking someone's property and cautions against corrupt practices.

The Hadith further elaborates on the consequences of depriving others of their rights. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said, "Whoever takes the property of a Muslim by taking a false oath, Allah will make Hellfire obligatory for him and will prohibit Paradise for him" (Sahih Al-Bukhari). This hadith underscores the severity of falsely claiming ownership or manipulating the truth to unjustly acquire someone else's possessions.

Islam encourages believers to seek lawful means of earning and acquiring wealth. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand (i.e., the one that gives is better than the one that takes)" (Sahih Al-Bukhari). This hadith promotes the virtue of giving and earning through legitimate means, discouraging any form of exploitation or deprivation.

Furthermore, Islam promotes restitution for wrongful acts. If someone has been unjustly deprived of their rights or property, the perpetrator is urged to rectify the situation. In a hadith narrated by Abu Huraira, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever has taken a piece of land unjustly, the Prophet will oppose him on the Day of Resurrection until there is no injustice left" (Sahih Al-Bukhari). This highlights the accountability individuals will face for their unjust actions, urging them to correct their wrongs in this world before facing consequences in the Hereafter.

In Islamic jurisprudence, there are specific guidelines and penalties for theft and unlawful deprivation. The emphasis is not only on punishment but also on the restoration of justice. The Quran prescribes the cutting off of the hand for theft, but it is accompanied by conditions and considerations, ensuring that justice is served with mercy and fairness. This serves as a deterrent while also emphasizing the importance of respecting the property and rights of others.

The Islamic teachings on justice and avoiding the deprivation of rightful possessions are rooted in the broader concept of stewardship. Muslims are considered stewards (khalifah) on Earth, entrusted by Allah with resources and responsibilities. Misappropriation of others' property contradicts the ethical principles of stewardship and violates the trust placed in individuals by the Creator.

Islam unequivocally condemns the deprivation of rightful possessions as a serious crime. The Quran and Hadith provide clear guidance on justice, fairness, and ethical conduct. Believers are encouraged to uphold the principles of honesty, compassion, and restitution, and warned against the severe consequences of unjustly taking what rightfully belongs to others. The teachings of Islam aim to foster a just and equitable society, where individuals respect each other's rights and live in accordance with the principles of divine guidance.
