A latent risk

Time goes by and I try to adapt to this new "normality" in the midst of a pandemic that instead of receding, is advancing every day with more strength. In my country there are more and more cases, more and more people I know, in my very small circle, suffer from it and some have even died. Certainly it is no longer breaking news, even though there are more cases and deaths.

Life must go on anyway, for those of us who are still healthy, for those of us who can still go out and work, do our jobs, even if it is a risk, what other choice do we have? We do not know how long it will take to reverse the curve of spread and therefore of deaths, which has been progressing intensely for more than a year, although it is much less than in other countries and the official cases are also very few in relation to the real ones, most of the people I know who have suffered from the virus are not in the statistics.

Fortunately, I have been given the second dose of the vaccine, as well as my husband and my daughter, for us it is a peace of mind because as far as I have heard, this terrible disease after the vaccine, is less fatal, they say that it is more similar to a flu and that is really encouraging. I thank God because in spite of the blockade that the citizens of my country are suffering, we have had access to vaccines and day after day our people are being immunized.

The best option in these times is still prevention, the treatment is very expensive and the risk is too high to be taken lightly, with or without vaccination, the care must be the same and in particular, more than the fear of getting sick, I am terrified of making others sick, I could not deal with my conscience.

A good attitude also helps, as in everything, it is very difficult what we are living, but I try to live from the immense gratitude I feel for the welfare of my family and for the hope of a better tomorrow for everyone in the world; they say that what does not kill you strengthens you and I think it is true, complicated circumstances force us to overcome them or die and I do not think that giving up is an option, so we usually get the strength we need, that we did not even know we had.

It is in difficult times that we know what we are made of, it does us no good to focus on what we lack, instead, it gives us strength to value what we have, which as I always say, is more than what we think we lack. As I think of a tomorrow without pandemics, without war and without evil, among so many other things, I continue sowing little by little what I hope to harvest then, because in the end, life does not stop.
