Remote northern towns
Pueblos remotos del norte
In many areas of Spain a great depopulation is happening, especially in small towns, for a few years now people have begun to talk about "abandoned Spain", emigration that occurs within our own borders. There are several reasons why this situation has happened and is happening, it is not a temporary fad or something casual that this is happening. The truth is that population flows, many people have chosen to change their way of life, generations change and needs become more acute.
As I mentioned before, there are different reasons why this phenomenon is occurring. One of the main ones is that the country's inhabitants in general are ageing. The Spanish population is rapidly aging and the number of births has drastically decreased probably due to various cultural and economic changes. Between the 1950s and the 1970s, births and large families constituted the main axis of the social policy that was in style at the time, under the Franco dictatorship. Many of us come from families with more than three children, so the state financially helped this type of family nucleus. Today those who were born in these decades and who constitute a fairly high number of the country's inhabitants have reached the age of more than 50 years.
En muchas zonas de España está pasando una gran despoblación sobre todo en pequeños pueblos, de unos años a esta parte se ha empezado a hablar de la “España abandonada“, emigración que se produce dentro de nuestras mismas fronteras. Los motivos de que esta situación haya sucedido y sucede son varios, no es una moda temporal o algo casual que esto esté pasando. Lo cierto es que los flujos de población, muchas personas han optado por cambiar su modo de vida, las generaciones cambian y las necesidades se agudizan.
Como antes comentaba hay diferentes motivos de que este fenómeno este ocurriendo. Uno de los principales es que los habitantes del país en general están envejeciendo. La población española está envejeciendo rápidamente y el número de nacimientos ha disminuido drásticamente probablemente debido a varios cambios culturales y económicos. Entre los años 50 y los 70 los nacimientos y las familias numerosas constituían el principal eje de la política social que entonces, bajo la dictadura franquista, se estilaba. Muchos de nosotros procedemos de familias de más de tres hijos, entonces el estado ayudaba económicamente este tipo de núcleos familiares. Hoy por hoy aquellos que nacieron en estas décadas y que constituyen un número bastante elevado de habitantes del país está alcanzado la edad de más de 50 años.
Por otro lado existe ya un número muy elevado de personas mayores de 70 años y después de la situación de pandemia muchas de estas personas se han ido y otras han visto su modo de vida muy afectado debido a su edad. La vida en los pequeños pueblos es dura, requiere un constante trabajo y sacrifico en muchas de las cuestiones diarias, atender la casa, los campos, el ganado tareas que las personas más jóvenes, en general, no están dispuestas a perdurar debido a que se han preparado para otro tipo de trabajos. Esto hace que esa juventud, de un espectro muy amplio de edades, hay emigrado de estos pequeños núcleos de población a las grandes ciudades buscando un futuro más prometedor.
Personally and for a few years I have seen that small towns in some regions are completely sold, town hall, chapel, schools due to lack of people, uninhabited towns. People who have already left or young and not so young who have chosen to change their places of residence. The situation has been going on for some years and is becoming more and more evident. It must be said that there is also an opposite effect to this and that a minority of people look for the exact opposite. They seek this type of life, quiet in the villages, to also change their way of life. Choosing to have the possibility of living quietly, without the hassles of the cities is another way of taking one's own life.
