The popular saying, "don't judge a book by its cover," has a great role to play in this topic because oftentimes, believing in what we see ends up in mere assumption, based on what the fact has been attributed to it.
I've had a lot of cases where I quickly judged by what was present before my sight, and in these cases, the wrong judgement were more than the fitted ones.
Drinking non-alcoholic in the midst of misdt drinking alcohol
Way back when I was at home working in the church as a staff member, which placed me in the position of a 'saint'(I almost became a pastor.)
I had a lot of church brothers that we tagged along with and they were given good privileges. With this effect, they were made to abstain from alcoholism because once they're seen, it won't be fair in the sight of the pastor and the congregation.
In one of the festive seasons, I met two of them having a nice time with drinks along with their other friends that were not 'churchy'( not religiously inclined). Their table has bottles of Guiness and glasses filled with these drinks.
I saw it, nodded my head and concluded that it was alcohol they were taking.
Not quite long, one of them walked up to me with the glass of drink in his hands and said, "I know you've concluded that it's Guiness I'm taking. Calm down bro, It's a Coca-Cola drink I'm taking. You can have a sip to confirm."
He directed the glass to my mouth with his hand, and he made it pour onto my lips. Yes, I tasted it, and I found out that it's really Coca-Cola.
It's not like I would have reported him to the pastor, no. It's just that I would have taken it as him faking his lifestyle, and that's what I frown at so much.
Why I stopped judging people without getting close to them
Some few years back during NYSC, one of our leaders walked up to me and handed me a cigarette to inhale a little. I was surprised because I was leading a Christian group and everyone knew me to be decent...at least not faking some lifestyle to please others. I asked the man why he's giving me a cigarette, and he said my lips look dark, and that's a sign of a smoker or someone who has smoked before. Jeeez!
I had to go and look at the mirror again because I'm sure I don't have dark lips.
For real, that was the first time I knew that someone somewhere was looking at me and imagining I smokes.
In my Christian life, I have stopped judging people by how they look, the things they do, or how they do their things. Why? I've been in the company of "churchy people" doing the worst things... I feel like sharing a story, but I sense thunder might strike me if I do.🤧 Also, I've seen 'rough people' with the sweetest of hearts, who consider humanity to the core. I'm not righteous either...🙄
All I do now is assume and drop the assumption and move on.
You've seen a well-packaged lady and assumed that she could never be single? Yeah, yeah, many guys here have experienced this, and it always turns out to be true (97.8%of the time). This is my assumption that always plays out true.
I don't know if ladies see guys like this too🙄
Thanks for reading 🥰
