La tecnología es algo que ha estado inmerso en nuestras vidas desde hace mucho tiempo. Si hacemos referencia a los hechos históricos, han existido varias revoluciones industriales que han cambiado la forma en las cuales hacemos las cosas. Pasamos a ser más industrializados, la el tipo de energía para los procesos, tuvimos acceso a la energía eléctrica y al uso masivo del petróleo como principal fuente energética.

Actualmente, estamos según mi criterio entre la tercera y la cuarta revolución industrial porque seguimos en la era de la computación y la automatización, muchos de los procesos se están actualizando, digitalizando y automatizando y, además en la cuarta se relaciona con cyberfísica, hiperconectividad y bigdata.

Aunque muchos de nosotros no estemos íntimamente ligados a la tecnología, porque no somos desarrolladores, de forma indirecta siempre nos relacionamos porque somos consumidores o usuarios. Eso lo vemos en el uso de las plataformas bancarias, la telefonía celular, los dispositivos móviles y muchas cosas más.

En este publicación les comento un poco sobre como me he relacionado con la tecnología y lo que opino de ella.

¿Por qué estoy relacionada con la tecnología?

Debido a que me decidí por una carrera científica, la química, mi vida ha estado íntimamente ligada a la tecnología. Aunque estudié en un país del tercer mundo, hace algunos años había la posibilidad de comprar equipos de análisis químico de última generación y tuve la posibilidad de ser entrenada para usarlos.

Así que mayormente he estado ligada a este tipo de cosas. incluso para mí fue un reto cuando fui a desarrollar parte de mi tesis doctoral en Canadá porque, aunque sabía de ciertas cosas no había empleado muchos de los equipos que me tocaba emplear, incluso las técnicas de magnetometría eran algo desconocido para mí.

Sin embargo, con el debido entrenamiento pude manejar los equipos de forma independiente y obtener mis resultados bastante rápido.

Solo necesitamos tiempo

Con base en lo que planteo anteriormente, aunque no soy una experta creo que todos con cierto entrenamiento podemos hacer muchas cosas que implican el uso de la tecnología, independientemente de la edad. Ciertamente nuestra curva de aprendizaje puede ser más lenta, y puede ser necesario que hagamos ciertas repeticiones para fijar el conocimiento o el proceso, pero una vez que lo dominamos podremos repetirlo sin problemas.

Cada día de nuestra existencia podemos aprender cosas nuevas, conocer gente nueva, vivir experiencias y cambiar. Es importante que tengamos claro que es cuestión de elegir, conozco personas de 80 años que se mantienen activos y productivos siempre con ansías de seguir aprendiendo y de ayudar a otros, tal vez aceptando esa nueva etapa, pero siempre llenos de alegría y entusiasmo, también conozco a otras personas que pese a ser mucho más jóvenes se quedan detenidos, no desean avanzar, parece que solo esperan el final y que ya todo lo que iban a hacer lo hicieron. Es decir, ya no se plantean nuevas metas ni tienen aspiraciones o incluso no están interesados en vincularse con la tecnología porque dicen que no les gusta o que eso no sirve.

Claro que yo considero que no debemos olvidar lo rico que es una conversación frente a frente, tratar de subir a un árbol, recibir los rayos del sol, esas cosas tangibles a las que estamos acostumbrados, pero abrirle un espacio a la tecnología y beneficiarnos de lo que nos ofrece y apreciar su contribución para nuestro bienestar, entre lo que se incluye tener mas tiempo libre para hacer otras cosas, no es para nada excluyente. Así que amigos vamos a involucrarnos un poco más y a disfrutar de los avances tecnológicos a los que tengamos acceso.

Technology is something that has been immersed in our lives for a long time. If we refer to historical facts, there have been several industrial revolutions that have changed the way we do things. We became more industrialized, the type of energy for processes, we had access to electricity and the massive use of oil as the main energy source.

Currently, according to my criteria, we are between the third and fourth industrial revolution because we are still in the era of computing and automation, many of the processes are being updated, digitized, and automated and, in addition, the fourth is related to cyber physics, hyperconnectivity, and bigdata.

Although many of us are not closely linked to technology, because we are not developers, indirectly we always relate because we are consumers or users. We see that in the use of banking platforms, cell phones, mobile devices, and much more.

In this post, I tell you a little about how I have related to technology and what I think about it.

Why am I related to technology?

Since I decided on a scientific career, chemistry, my life has been closely linked to technology. Although I studied in a third-world country, some years ago there was the possibility of buying state-of-the-art chemical analysis equipment and I was able to be trained to use it.

So I've mostly been tied to this kind of thing. Even for me, it was a challenge when I went to develop part of my doctoral thesis in Canada because, although I knew about certain things, I had not used much of the equipment that I had to use, even magnetometry techniques were something unknown to me.

However, with proper training, I was able to operate the equipment independently and get my results pretty quickly.

We just need time

Based on what I have stated above, although I am not an expert, I believe that everyone with some training can do many things that involve the use of technology, regardless of age. Certainly, our learning curve may be slower, and it may be necessary to do certain repetitions to fix the knowledge or the process, but once we master it we can repeat it without problems.

Every day of our existence we can learn new things, meet new people, live experiences, and change. It is important that we are clear that it is a matter of choosing, I know 80-year-old people who remain active and productive always eager to continue learning and helping others, perhaps accepting that new stage, but always full of joy and enthusiasm, too. I know other people who, despite being much younger, remain detained, do not want to advance, it seems that they are only waiting for the end and that they have already done everything they were going to do. That is, they no longer set new goals or have aspirations or are not even interested in engaging with technology because they say they don't like it or that it doesn't work.

Of course, I consider that we should not forget how rich a face-to-face conversation is, trying to climb a tree, receive the sun's rays, those tangible things we are used to, but open space to technology and benefit from what it offers us and appreciating its contribution to our well-being, including having more free time to do other things, is not exclusive at all. So friends, let's get involved a little more and enjoy the technological advances that we have access to.
