Isuzu is a Japanese automotive manufacturer with a rich history dating back to 1916. Below are overview of their history and some of their notable products:

  1. Early Years, Isuzu's origins can be traced to the Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, which was founded in 1916. The company initially focused on manufacturing vehicles for the Japanese military.

  2. Automotive Expansion, In 1934, they produced their first passenger car, the Isuzu Wolseley, and the brand "Isuzu" was born. After World War II, Isuzu shifted its focus to commercial vehicles, producing trucks and buses.

  1. Diesel Engine Pioneers, Isuzu gained recognition for its pioneering work in diesel engine technology. In 1936, they developed Japan's first air-cooled diesel engine. Over the years, Isuzu continued to innovate in diesel engine design, which became a hallmark of their products.

  2. Partnership with General Motors, In 1971, Isuzu formed a strategic partnership with General Motors (GM), which lasted for several decades. This collaboration led to the production of various vehicles, including the Chevrolet LUV and Isuzu Trooper.

  3. Expansion into Global Markets, Isuzu gradually expanded into international markets, particularly in the United States. The Isuzu P'up and later the Isuzu Rodeo gained popularity in the American market during the 1980s and 1990s.
