For people who live in the city and for anyone who has to deal with traffic jams to get to work, this morning view in Takengon becomes something luxurious and 'expensive'.

Lake Laut Tawar plays an important role for the residents of the city of Takengon in the villages around the lake, there are also many residents who work as fishermen, therefore the condition of the lake and the quality of the lake water is very important for them to always be maintained.

In addition, residents also use the lake water as a source of water for their daily activities. The lake water irrigates the fields and gardens of the residents of Takengon, the majority of whom are farmers and fishermen. What is not yet, is the utilization of this lake for tourism activities. Even though there are facilities that have been built for tourism purposes, but their conditions are not well maintained.

There are not many inns on the edge of the lake but actually there are hotels that have triumphed in the 80's to 90's.

In its heyday, the 38 rooms at this Renggali hotel since 1984 were always full of tourists.
The conflict between the Indonesian government and the rebels in Aceh that occurred in the period 1975-2005 also hit the hotel's glory.

Because of the vastness of the residents, they named this lake Laut Tawar Lake.
The lake is surrounded by limestone and metasediment, which is a karst structure characterized by surrounding caves. Some of the stalactites are nests for bats. According to the study, the stalagmites here are still active. But the story passed down from generation to generation about this cave in the 18th century, becomes the most interesting part.

Loyang Koro or Goa Buffalo was formerly used for crossing the livestock of the villagers from Toweren village to Ishak village, along 35 km.

The community's economy really depends a lot on tourism here. But on the other hand, the Lake Laut Tawar tourist attraction is managed in a family manner and perhaps the local government is still not serious about working on this sector.

Paragliding over the City of Takengon, West Sumatra, while enjoying the sensation of flying over the pine hills and the blue expanse of the freshwater lake is certainly an amazing experience. In addition to the paragliding attraction by the paragliding pilot of the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation (FASI) West Sumatra, people who want to feel the sensation of twisting and turning in the air in Takengon City can also fly in tandem with the paragliding instructor.

"With the natural beauty of Takengon City and its strategic location for the runway, the development of paragliding in Takengon City is very promising, especially for the advancement of regional tourism."
