Natuna Regency has a panorama of extraordinary natural beauty.
One of them is Root Island. This island is part of the Geosite site of the Indonesian National Geopark in Natuna.
As is known, the Natuna area has become a National Geopark obtained from the Indonesian National Geopark Committee.
Why is Root Island made a Geosite? Because on this island there are unique minerals and rocks.
The rocks are basalt with a pillow lava structure. Composed of pyraksen, volcanic glass (paloganite).
The island with a diameter of approximately 25 meters is decorated with mineral rocks in the form of basalt and small trees in the middle.
In addition, when we face this island from the entrance gate, we will see the left side of the island there is a stone monument with the blue writing "Welcome to Root Island".

An information board in the center of the island explained that the initial interpretation of the basalt rocks on Akar Island was the result of underwater volcanism due to subduction.
That was before the presence of Ranai Granite which was approximately 188-144 million years ago or the Jurassic period.

To reach Akar Island, if taken from the center of Ranai City, Natuna, you can use two-wheeled or four-wheeled motorized vehicles.
Travel time is about 40 to 60 minutes.
