Likupang it may still be foreign to the ears of tourists, even though this area holds an amazing natural charm. Located in North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi, Likupang Subdistrict holds a treasure trove of promising tourism.
Local legend has it that Likupang was the place where the angels descended. It is derived from the Tumetenden legend of the ancestors of Tou Tonsea, the Minahasa ethnic group of North Sulawesi. It is said about the romance of a farmer named Mamanua who managed to make one of the nine angels who were down and bathing in the lake. They live at the foot of Mount Tamporok and have a son named Walangsendau. Once, Lumalundung the angel had to return to kahyangan because of Mamanua's mistake. Lumalundung then advised if Walangsendau cried then Mamanua should invite him to run after the direction of the sun. Sure enough, Mamanua carried Walangsendau walking through forests, mountains, and rivers until it ended up on a clear and beautiful white sandy blue beach. A fish approached the two and then drove them back to meet Lumalundung and their journey paid off. Likupang is indeed worthy of being an angel's house because of its beauty, especially not many people who can touch it.
Likupang was chosen to be the location of the W20 side event on February 14-16, 2022. The W20 Presidency of Indonesia is part of the G20 event that discusses gender equality.
