The National parliament of Bangladesh is the highest legislative body with 300 members. One Member of Parliament is elected from each constituency on the basis of direct vote of adult voters. This election is usually held every 5 years. Earlier, 30 seats were allotted to women who were elected by popular vote. This provision of reserved seats for women members was in the constitution for a short time. This provision was introduced for the last time in the Seventh Parliament.
