The day I woke up to a hat trick of helplessness.

Do you know what happens when your life is consistently going through a sequence of frustrations, tragedies and disappointments?

That in itself makes life tough and it's easy to wish for those things to never happen. However, there are moments when it's just unavoidable. Sometimes, these things happen in moments when it feels like there is nothing we can do to solve things. It brings forth the feeling of helplessness and misery.

Speaking of helplessness, that feeling is one of the major emotions that makes people's minds fragmented and leaves them in acute frustration. It makes you feel like a house divided amongst itself and it's never a good thing to experience.

One of the moments I felt helpless;

There have been several instances I can easily pick from, but I will go with the most recent incident which happened two weeks ago.

I woke up that day with huge enthusiasm and I could see how I wanted that day to unfold. I intended to break myself in half with work and see what I would be able to achieve that day. I envisioned it to be a very interesting day, but what I got instead was completely different.

The first interaction I got into that day turned into a misunderstanding. Being on a call with someone over the internet can be like that. The network can get in the way. It's also easier for words and intentions to be misunderstood compared to when a physical interaction is ongoing. I tagged along and when the discussion was over, I could feel the burden of it still lingering on.

It wasn't how I planned to start the day, but it is what it is. Immediately after that, I got a very uninspiring phone call from home about a couple of things that were going wrong. It wasn't a spicy one. Everything I heard in the phone call tore into my flesh. I had to think fast about what to do because I already spent a huge chunk of money to get a new laptop a few weeks before that day.

It was impossible to be of help or assist and the situation also needed my physical presence. However, work was at its busiest season and any attempt to go see my family usually took an average of 14 hours of travel. Circumstances around me at that time didn't permit any of that.

After that phone call, I was back in my chair while thinking about what to do. I've already faced two tough encounters at the beginning of that day and each of those wrecked me and made me feel very helpless. Well, the next thing that happened was the worst of them all.

My smartphone accidentally dipped inside a full 18-litre bucket of water.

For the record, all my finances are tied to the internet world. Even the Bank I use is an internet bank and I don't have a Debit or Credit card attached to that bank account. So, if I ever want to do any money-related transaction, it would be impossible to get that done without my smartphone. Also, all my digital currencies are accessible through my smartphones.

Of course, I have stuff backed up on my OTG flash drive, Laptop and co. But, using any of that for a quick transaction would be similar to running through a rabbit hole.

You need to see my reaction when my phone fell into that bucket of water. I immediately reached for it and took it out before it touched the bottom of the bucket. I tried to make sure water wouldn't get into the major components of the phone and I'm still not sure of how effective my actions were. However, the phone started malfunctioning immediately.

I had a painful laugh at that very moment. I wasn't even sure of why I was laughing, but that's all I was doing in my apartment. I never really learned how to get help from people and I never learned how to be dependent on people. When the whole shit was going down, I knew I've got to set things straight.

I did the maths of how to get access to my account and pull out #200,000 if the worst-case scenario warrants getting a new Phone. After getting the maths right (everything happened within seconds), I checked my physical wallet to know the cash I had at hand. From then, I dressed up and went to see the phone technician who I usually get phone accessories from.

He started working on the phone immediately and by God's grace, we were able to fix the phone within a ridiculously short period. Even the amount he charged for fixing the phone was way below what I expected. I think it was #3,000 or thereabout. I just couldn't believe how everything happened.

I paid him with the cash I had and went back home to get a cold bath, eat something nice and finally get started with my work for that day.

This series of unfavourable incidents that happened that day took place from daybreak to noon. I felt helpless in each of the situations, but I still managed to keep my composure without losing my mind. Being calm when the storm is rising is one of the things I love so much about how I've built myself and it has helped me navigate through so much in life.

In case you are wondering how I got to settle things related to the call I got from home, I finally got to make a 14-hour trip back home. I travelled yesterday (Friday) and I will be using a whole week to dig around and hopefully solve as much as I can.

Here is an ending video for you, thanks to Jordan Peterson.
