Happy with the purchase?

in lifestyle •  8 months ago

One of the things you do when you have money and you want to spend that money is to make sure you are spending that money on things that are worth it.

Even if you decide to go out and sprinkle that money on some hardworking folks in the boondocks, as long as you are satisfied with the feeling you get from those expenses and you don't feel like you wasted your money, that will always tick as money well spent.

Well, I didn't even know there was something called "a happy purchase" until I saw the writing prompt from the Hive Learners folks. I looked it up on Google and I have a lot of experience to share about that. While on it, I will also share an experience of a moment when I spent money on something that ended up being worthless.

Let's dive in already...

My moments of being happy with my purchase;

The easy things to pick in this arena are my gadgets because I pay very good attention to details when I'm getting a gadget. I also do really good research to get the best quality out of any gadget I'm spending money on. Things like phone, laptop, power bank, earpiece, and co. These are the things I use daily and they are also connected to my income.

For example, the phone I bought on 5th December 2020 is still very clean, active, and functioning well. I bought the phone in less than a month after it became accessible in Nigeria and I've used that phone every day since then until November 2023. The only maintenance I give the phone is to change the screen guard when it gets a crack. The 6000mAh battery is still very clean.

I had to get another phone in November 2023 and I will be handing over the one I've been using to someone special. Mumcy doesn't even know she will be getting the phone, but she will receive it ASAP.

For me, I don't buy fairly used gadgets. I'm always the first to use them when they are factory made and I spend huge to get the gadgets that are fit for purpose. I use the same approach when I'm getting all my electrical appliances. Remember when I bought a deep freezer in November 2023? What about when I got a new laptop in the second half of last year?

All of those have been fit for purpose. I'm happy with that purchase.

The moment I made disappointing expenses;

Does house rent count?

I once paid a yearly rent for an apartment but ended up spending just 6 months in the place before relocating. I sure didn't do my research well before paying for that and the property owner turned out to be someone that has a vicious sense of humor when telling lies. I faced a lot of damage before finally decided to go on a house hunt. I'm now living in a place that is so much better and more comfortable.

Here's is a recent incident; The chair in my working space became unfit for purpose and I had a lot of expenses piling up because Christmas was around the corner and I had a lot of things I wanted to buy before then. I also had to travel back home and do some stuff for my family. I knew I needed to get a chair I would use in my working space, but I wasn't ready to squeeze out #40,000 at that point. I ended up using #8000 to get a plastic chair. Lol.

That was the worst spending decision I made last year. The chair was a mismatch to my working space. Aside from that, it also wasn't fit for purpose. I could only use it for 2½ months. Immediately New Year came, I went on 2nd January and got a proper chair for my working space. I paid #53,500 for it and I'm sure it would have been cheaper if I got the same chair a few months back.

That's pretty much all I will be sharing for now.
