At the very least, don't tell a lie.

One of the things I've been suggesting to people around me is that they should try to pay attention to themselves and take note of the habits they have. This practice is geared towards making people more self-aware and it's a good step to take when you are trying to change your life for good.

From experience, most people find it easier to dig through their lives and see the good habits they have. It's almost like they can't tell the bad habits they have. Maybe they are not so interested in knowing about that. I don't know. However, everyone has a habit that's bad which they can work on to improve their life.

During one of these good/bad habit conversations I was having with a colleague, I listened to him mention some of the good habits he has and he appeared to be struggling to mention any bad habits. He's someone I've known for a while and since the conversation was going on with the intention of improving each other, I told him clearly that one of his bad habits which I've noticed is that he doesn't tell the truth as often as he should be doing.

For the record, that's a conversation that he is still grateful for to this day and I'm glad about that.

You see, the idea of always saying the truth or at least never telling a lie is something I've made a big part of my lifestyle. It started from the training I got during my childhood. My parents gave me the phenomenal story of how liars get punished by getting thrown into hell. Of course, I found out later that the story wasn't exactly what I thought it was.

Nonetheless, I've always tried to be truthful in everything I do. I've noticed that this habit has made it so much easier for people to see me as someone trustworthy, even if I don't share the same ideas or opinions with such people. Networking with folks also became so much easier because people often noticed how I don't utter lies and to make things better, I often try to do exactly what I say.

This was the case when I was in the corporate world and the same is still applicable now that I'm working remotely. I recently worked with a project that says things and make processes but what they say are usually hard to believe... It might turn out to be true or blatant lies. I'm not someone that easily trusts people and once I notice that someone is a liar, it becomes even harder to trust the person.

I don't know the exact way everyone see me, but I'm sure that my habit of never telling a lie is something that has impacted my life with lots of fairly inspiring growth and development.
