Throughout the last two weeks, we did lots of research on purchasing a Refrigerator. Our typical strategy is starting from 0 knowledge and gathering enough information that needs to make a rational decision. Today I am going to share with you several interesting facts that we learned during the process.
In Sri Lanka, there are some rival refrigerator brands that have ruled the market for decades. The majority of the users have SISIL refrigerators definitely. And secondly LG and Singer. Samsung, Damro and Innovex, Abans are also common in the market. Whirlpool, Beko, and Panasonic refrigerators are also available in different showrooms.
During our research, we realized that there are multiple ways of buying a refrigerator. First, you can buy directly from the distributors such as Singer, Abans, Soflogic, Sinhagiri, or Damro. With this approach, you can get proper customer service, free delivery, and items with less dust and scratches.
Secondly, you can purchase from dealers, who buy wholesale from distributors. Dealers' prices are way lower than distributers' prices. This price difference can vary from 20 000 to 50 000 LKR. Especially if you order a refrigerator from Daraz, you can have the same refrigerator for a lower price. Dealers also offer a company warranty, and provide service from the distributor. But the variety of items is lower when buying from dealers. In this area, we couldn't find the capacity that we were looking for from any dealer. Also, you may need to pay for transport.
A person who has the capability can purchase a refrigerator duty-free at the airport. If any of your friends are coming to Sri Lanka, you can ask them to do some sacrifices and purchase a fridge for you. This will save at least 50 000 LKR from the local price. The disadvantages are, this may cost you too much transport costs depending on your location. Also, it is an inconvenience to the person who does the purchase on your behalf of you.
Purchasing from a dealer is the most budget-friendly option, if you have found what you really want. In my next article, I will discuss what are the other facts we learned during our research period.

You have really researched. It is good to know these facts. We are about to buy a new refrigerator too. Our old one is Samsung brand and it is not functioning anymore. Thanks for sharing.
Btw how long you have been using Samsung one? What are the other brands available in ur country ?
I think more than 5 years but it is not functioning well now. There is Kelvinator, LG, Fujidenzo among others.
I have heard only LG brand among others.
The good thing is that you learned a lot about how and when to buy a refrigerator. Here in Chile, the brands are different, but it is still cheaper to buy cash from large distributors. Also buying refrigerators with some scratches makes the price much lower as long as appearance doesn't matter.

This is one of the most important thing I need right now in my house. I saw you listed some brands that are common in your country, here in my country when it comes to refrigerator thermacool is the leading brand, it will be difficult to see any other brands in the market such as LG, Panasonic, and others. I saw that thermacool wasn't even in your list, I guess they aren't popular or their products aren't available in your country I guess.
