Introducing Myself to Blurt

in introduction •  3 years ago  (edited)

Checking out this platform, would love to find a tour guide XD

2018-08-15 21.48.25.jpg

I have been wanting to do an introduction post here for a bit, but each time I've started something has come up- hopefully this time I won't get interrupted by my extra busy life.

2017-08-22 23.04.51.jpg

So, Hi there Blurt! I'm looking forward to seeing where this platform goes. I was encouraged to try it out by my good friend @frot, who brought to my attention that I already had some blurt in an account I don't even recall making! I have a vague impression of signing for something at one point that promised an airdrop, so maybe this was it?

PXL_20210722_213452019.jpg

Or perhaps I didn't, and this was a spin off from Steemit where I had just enough steem left for a transfer? Let me know so I can solve this mystery!

2017-07-08 01.46.45.jpg

Either way it's great to at least have enough to get started as I found out we need some liquid blurt to do everything. I should probably find a post that explains it all to me, but if someone sees this and has a handy link, I would be most grateful if you drop it in the comment section :0)

Okay, a brief about me.

I live in upstate NY, specifically the finger lakes region. Absolutely beautiful for five months out of the year- these pictures are all local. But it is NY, or Nazi York as my hubby likes to call it, and we're currently working on a plan to move.

2019-06-25 14.44.43.jpg

I'm a writer with a published novel and two more waiting in the wings. The genre for those is paranormal romance, but recently I have been working on something a bit more Sci-Fi. When I'm not blocked, which has been a bit of a problem these past couple years.

20180816_152002.jpg

I love taking pictures, specifically of nature, and generally tend to blog about hiking and traveling.

2017-10-14 23.00.46-02.jpeg

And I also spend a lot of time philosophizing, which I'm sure you'll soon see :)

2017-09-05 02.07.49.jpg

I think that's a good enough start, and perhaps I will find time to get more involved here. Thanks in advance for the welcome, and make it a great rest of the night!

Beautiful photography. Upvoted via the #blurtphoto Curation Project.

Why thank you :)

Awesome. Welcome to Blurt. I love that area. We go hiking in the Gorges near Ithaca every summer. We are across the border in beautiful Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 where we spend all our days hiking, snow shoeing and kayaking on the rivers and lakes. Mostly Georgian Bay, Lake Huron and Lake Superior ... you can earn enough Blurt from blogging here to live off the grid in Canada or anywhere else.

Thank you! That's awesome. I'm in the Ithaca area, actually between Ithaca and Geneva. I almost put up a picture of Taughannok, but decided I'd hold off until I go hiking there again soon :)

I have not been to Ontario, which is a crime. Especially now that I don't think I could get there if I wanted to, unless the border crossing rules have relaxed at this point.

Off grid life is very likely in my future. It wouldn't be the first time, and I honestly love it. The outdoors are what make this world worth being in :)

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

I think they have dropped all the mandates here in Ontario 🇨🇦 .

Not sure about cross border stuff, but we have used the last 2 years to kayak every single River, Stream and lake within a days drive….

Ontario is worth the visit… especially the a Great Lakes ... Huron and Superior.

It’s heaven on Earth.

Oh wow, that is spectacular! Definitely on my list of places to visit. Canoeing has always been our thing, but just last year I went out on a friend's kayak and have been thinking of switching:)

Yeah… I had a canoe for a while but it was too heavy to lift, portage… I picked up a 9’ Wilderness Recreational kayak 22 years ago…. Only 30 lbs… and love it… I eventually bought 3 more Wilderness and Perception 10’ kayaks … so we are a family of 4 that kayaks together every day starting in May. So much to explore here in Canada alone.

A few tips

Never ever edit even a tiny comment - the fees for doing that are astronomical

Don't let your liquid blurt run out, or you are dead in the water, can't even claim rewards because that also requires a fee. I keep a balance of 50 or so to be on the safe side.

There appears to be a mild upvote curve. It's not as punishing as on H, but it is a thing.

Other than those, I find blurt very similar to its predecessors, minus the downvotes and communities, neither of which I miss.

After years of stressing out about stuff on Steemit and Hive, my approach here is going to be to just ignore the money altogether - I seem to have heaps there for commenting, but my vote is only worth about 1 cent - after the stress of being a whale it's nice not to care

You were a whale? I didn't know you on the other two.

I stressed myself out on H and S producing high quality creative writing and getting pretty much nowhere. Here, I can simply be reasonable and honest, post now and then, and earn more than I did/do on H. It's lovely. I follow very few accounts here and spread my upvotes only around those few. It might be considered circle jerking by some, but I really do read the posts, and believe l that my supporters read mine. It's much better here, more human, less money driven.

In the early days of steemit it was very much like that, tons of engagement, everyone very welcoming and open. 2016 through 2017 I would say. It was sad when that changed, and it definitely changed when bid bots came into the picture.

I did well there then, posted my way up to a decent dolphin, and sold enough when it was about five bucks apiece to take a cross country roadtrip with my family. I will always be grateful for at least that, not to mention so many amazing people I've met, like frot here ;) Many left, but I'm fortunate to have kept touch with quite a few off platform :)

I can already tell that we are kindred, so here's to making new connections like I once did :)

Cheers!

Early Steemit was really cool! I used to look at you as this massive rock star account holder. The way it all changed in 2018 was mind boggling.

The glory days. It was actual magic.

Howie is going to do a bit of research on this Blockchain. If he decides it has a good probability for increase, I may just find myself with a bit more of these coins dropped into my account haha.

If it goes that way, I have a list of people who disappeared from steemit to reach out to. You remember the-alien? He posted this on FB today, talking about the "I'm not a biologist" nonsense. His style of post and memes would be right up your alley :0) He may find a home here.

Im really curious to see what he finds...the price is very cheap but i wonder if the hive cabal could attack it if it was a threat? And we know they would like to!

Whales on Blurt have millions of tokens, so it needs a mental shift. And what is the market like? Im thinking aloud here but its not Hive and im going to be totally open and public.

The content is a bit thin at this point but im sure it could grow

We got a real chance here to fix thos broke concepts. 🍔🍟

I was angry that day, we all have opinions and they can change, bought the dip this week and boought another 3000 today as on hive engine they are 0.014 cents and on exchanges 0.0178 so some money to be made.

So far ive seen both good and bad, and am open minded about Blurt potential, so keen to hear more opinions

I was primarily doing Hive for the money, and did very well out of it...not from posting but from buying a large holding at 15 cents and later selling it for 90 cents...i had several accounts and did curation like a job for about 9 months, but the social side of it was hopeless. It is all so unpleasant now I wouldnt use it even if i thought it was still a potential investment. Which i dont!

There are too many attempts to control behavior on H. Of course, these behavior mod measures always impact the smaller accounts the most, just like irl. The communities really stressed me out, still do. Cliques. You're either in or you're out. You're more likely to be in if you get regular whale upvotes. Nothing whatsoever to do with content anymore - it's all who you know, and who you haven't pissed off. It's impossible to be genuine. Especially if you want to earn anything at all. It's how you play the game time on H, and playing on discord is a must. I can't. I just can't.

While I am happy that the most powerful whales ignore me altogether, it's pretty frustrating to see mediocre to bad content automatically earning WAAAAAY more than one of my carefully written, formatted, cited, proofread and gussied up posts could ever earn.

I always avoid Discord too - very dodgy place! I refuse to use it to interact with anyone. I use Bastyon encrypted chat for private stuff.

The inside circle control almost all the reward pool on Hive - I'm hoping that isn't the case on Blurt, but I haven't had a proper look - I do get the impression the Hive insiders hate Blurt, which is a good start

I like this whole comment ✍️🤬🆔🤳
BLURT is the antiHIVE-cabal ... Unofficially of course. But is was built to drive H8 into the heart of the nest of idiots who broke a perfectly nice chain.

Well done in getting the Dream I T over here for funD 🎯

Oh heck I edit so much, might have to try knocking that on the head then.

That was such an enjoyable introduction post, I can't wait for your philosophy posts. And the photographs!!! Welcome.

I recently moved from just north of NYC to the farthest western corner of Nazi York. It's much better here! But I long for Tennessee. Whereabouts in the finger lakes region are you now? I'm guessing Cayuga lake by those photos.

Hi there! Most of the lake photos are of Seneca, the one with the grass is Cayuga lake state park :) I'm between Ithaca and Geneva, so smack in the middle of the lakes.

Western NY, somewhere near Buffalo? I can only imagine it's better than near the city. I have family on Long Island- I spent the first ten years of life there- and they have definitely told me things that makes me glad not to be close to that.

Tennessee is on our list of potentials, we spent a week in the smokies right around this time last year. We also have family near Greenville SC, another potential:)

Good to meet you, thanks so much for stopping by!

My family has property on the west side of Owasco lake. I shouldn't be surprised that any where near Ithaca is on the zombie side, but I am still disappointed to hear this. And Geneva, isn't there a liberal arts college in Geneva? Hobart? Our colleges are breeding grounds for contempt and falsehoods now. It's astonishing!

I moved from just north of NYC to Allegany County. The governments are surprisingly liberal for a right leaning county, but a great many of the residents aren't having it. Easy to find like minded folks, unlike being close to NYC.

Whatever is coming is coming everywhere, even Tennessee. So I'm choosing to stand my little piece of ground out here with my fellow hillbillies, who haven't drunk the koolade.

Ithaca is terrible in that regard. It used to be my favorite of the little cities, but ever since covid I have been trying to avoid it. I did some doordashing through 2020 and a bit of 2021, and if I wanted to make any money, Ithaca was good for that, but very hard on my spirit. I didn't see a mask less face there until probably a couple months ago. And I'm not just talking indoors, walking, biking, I even saw people on kayaks with masks. Truly nuts.

Geneva is nowhere near as bad as Ithaca. Hobart students met me- first of all, all of Ithaca was drop at the door- and they met me without masks. There were some businesses that in the early days that made a point, but not for a long while.

My town is a different story, it is not liberal. The only time the businesses here were sticklers were when they got reported and were fined for not being that way. And they hated every minute of it.

You're right about what's coming happening everywhere. I may do a post on this for people who aren't aware, but South Dakota has a loophole. You can get nomad status, and it's pretty simple to do, just requires opening a p.o. box. And if you're really ambitious, you can take a trip there, spend a night, go to the DMV with your receipt and switch everything over. License, businesses etc. The only stipulation for all of it is that you don't have property in your name somewhere else.

This is what we're doing, it will give us the flexibility to be anywhere. We still like the idea of spending more time in the South, just because we have visited often and it's so completely different, most places down there stopped pandemicing a long while ago. But government will keep pushing and the dollar will keep crumbling, and you're right, ultimately it will catch up to all.

Flexibility to be anywhere sure sounds great. But where you are living sounds as good as it gets. Those I know in Nashville say there are still folks walking around in masks, quarantining, and the like. It's about what I have here in the boondocks of upstate Nazi York

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

Oh, no matter what we do, cities are not on the to go list. Far away from them. Even if for no other reason then they are certain to be hit the hardest by what comes next. But we've seen what your friend is talking about. The rest of SC, for example, quit pandemicing early on, while cities like Charleston and Greenville were about the same as Ithaca etc.

I know, trust me, I know people get caught up in the grass is greener mentality. And that's how I'm coming across.

We are in the opposite position of what you're thinking though, which makes sense, since I presented it like we're running from the Nazi state. The truth is, our whole life together our plan was always something along the lines of van living once the kids were grown. One day finding a spot somewhere with more sun to call home, but definitely being Gypsies for a long while first.

Our youngest will be leaving by fall of this year, but with all the uncertainty covid has caused we did start thinking of hunkering in. It won't be easier to leave, hah, nope. It will be much less secure and comfortable. Even with Nazi York being what it is, you're absolutely right. We have people here, a network. But if we ditch our lifelong plans now, chances are they'll never happen. We're still young enough to take that kind of life, but we won't always be. Naturally the dream looked very different before the world changed so drastically, but that's the thing- Staying, not leaving, would be out of fear. And I just refuse to let fear be what stops me. If it were the other way, and we were thinking of leaving because of fear, we'd probably stop ourselves and stay instead.

We haven't even discussed this with friends and family yet, which is why I was being so vague. It was very recent that a few things happened- signs really, which is a lot more to explain- that shook us out of the habit we had fallen into.

Well we must be destined to be friends when I haven't even told my mom and brother :) We're just at the beginning of the planning phase.

I really appreciate that you questioned me on this, by the way. People are usually too polite to say what they're thinking, or just not interested in anything beyond surface stuff. You are a genuine individual with depth, my favorite kind of people :)

But if we ditch our lifelong plans now, chances are they'll never happen.

I completely understand that!! You'll get your van life, your nomad life, and I, for one, won't call you crazy! It sounds dreamy @dreemit.

I may have encountered you on steem just before you powered down. Did you run some sort of organization involving children engagement? A contest to name a drawing?

I just got a puppy yesterday. I've never had a puppy, always older rescues, and I wanted a puppy of a determined breed. Talk about signs. I visited an Amish farm looking for someone to custom make one kitchen cabinet, and they had a litter of mini Australian Shepherds, one of the breeds I was most interested in.

Boy did I get a lot of flak just for wanting a puppy at my age! (66). "Who's gonna take it if something happens to you?" "You should go to the shelter." "You already have enough to do." "You better train this one!" and the like.

Destined to be friends, like me and my puppy, Hazel. I like that. So happy to have met you.

At least there will be someone who doesn't think we're nuts, haha!

Raising a dog from a puppy is the absolute best. We also had rescues until our pitbull Lucy, who is the best dog that ever lived. She changed some very pitbull prejudice minds on her journey, the sweetest thing. Eleven years old now. And as long as she's still with us, she'll be experiencing some van life too :)

You may be thinking of dreemsteem, a contest like that one sounds like something she would have. Darling girl that she is :)

Glad to meet you too!

So I'm choosing to stand my little piece of ground out here with my fellow hillbillies

The hillbillies have the strongest odds of holding out. My family comes from that neck of the woods so speak from experience.

We will see. It's unfolding so quickly now. We will see soon.

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

I've reblurted your post - next step is hopefully catch up with all your Steemit and Hive friends - most of us are all a bit new here, but slowly tracking everyone down!

Very cool, thanks!

Welcome to Blurt. You’re going to love it here.

Wonderful. Welcome to Blurt. #blurtlove

Thank you so much! The welcome alone shows how much promise there is here :)

Any friend of frot's is a friend of mine, welcome to blurtland

Thanks, glad to be here! Yup, Frot's a genuine guy. Have you met his other half @kiwideb? I hope to see her on here, they are a dynamic duo :)

I\ll follow too, I think my bf almost dumped me for getting on at him every day to post here LOL

@frot is awesome, you won't regret the follow! :)

Hmmm the name rings a bell so probably met her on Hive. yeh be good to see all the old hive friends on here. They're coming, slowly but surely.

Welcome @dreemit,

I think you will enjoy Blurt. It was forked from Steemit but no downvote and no SBD. The snapshot and airdrop for Blurt was done a little after the Hive fork.

Hi there! A familiar name , I think running into people I've known from steemit will be one of the best things about this place :)

Ah, I thought it might be something like that.
As far as first days go, this is pretty great I have to say!

I usually love Saturdays and this one does rock.

Honestly that's still up in the air, we're going to do a bit of traveling around first. But possibly end up in South Carolina or Tennessee:)

Oh hey! I know you :)

Looks awesome, New Mexico was one of the most stunning places I've ever visited. So different than the northeast. Castle Rock in particular was amazing.

I did a much more in depth post today. After such a great welcome, with engagement reminiscent of the early steemit days, I figured I'd go a little deeper ;)

Thank you 🙏 for the re cognition 😎
Highest praise for that second post.
Better road map than what the SteemIT crew used to put out in the day.

I took it personally last year when hivewatchers played gestapo tactics. I've since decided to recoup here.

Welcome abroad 🤬🥓

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

And of course I remember you, I see that you aren't using the Francis Bacon staple in your comments anymore ;) And I just realized, haha... is that NM poster your new footer, or just randomizing? :0)

Ah yeah, hah, there are some people who truly get a thrill out of playing cop. Just like the real thing it's a bully mentality, a love of power trips. I always wonder if Bernie is lurking somewhere under a different name.. he was entertaining for a long time I'll give him that 😆

That's true about the roadmap, I forgot how confusing that all was. And how clunky the front end was ha.

Beautiful photos mate! Welcome 2 Blurt!!🍀🌞
